The West Michigan Robotics Invitational (http://www.wmri.info/) is coming up on October 9. Who's going?

The COMETS (http://comets.firstobjective.org/) will be there!

2771 will be there. It's a fun way for new team-members to see what a tournament is all about!

There is room for a few more teams, so give it some thought. Here's the website: http://www.wmri.info/

2075 will be there but we may only have 3 or 4 people at the beginning since most of our team has a band competition to go to. Any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Our coach will be there but he is new and has never been to a competition. This will be a great experience for him and if you could give him a warm welcome to first that'd be great! He has a PHD in engineering :yikes:

Thanks again. I and one other team mate will probably be running our team so if you could stop by and make sure everything is going according to plan, that would be awesome.

We were planning to attend, but had an event last weekend and another one next weekend so it just wouldn't work out. Hopefully 2011.

Good luck to everyone there. It should be a great event.

Code Red enjoyed the tournament. Our young team members learned how to scout, strategize, drive, repair, cheer, dance and work with other teams in a well-run event.

It was great to get eight matches in, even before the elimination rounds. We send a big "Thank you!" to the volunteers out there who made it possible.

“Great Job” to the organizers & sponsoring teams of the WMRI & all of the Volunteers- you were great!

Special thanks to teams Team #85- for loaning us a data cable ½ way through quals, Team #2245 for sharing your red bumper cover with us throughout the event, & ref. Gary Voshol who allowed latitude in our numbering! We could not have competed without your assistance. :)

Our new folks sure learned a LOT about team organization and more importantly the broad range of work that it takes to run the team, not just the robot. Although at times painful, this fulfilled one of the biggest training missions of the Off-Season events. Thankfully, the robot held-up, though it finally started to seriously break-down in the final rounds (6 major events & 5 elimination appearances was very hard on the robot), in fact I don’t think it could have ran another match w/out major repairs & we would have really been pressed to get it back running!!

Thanks again to Team #3357 "Comets", it was a rare opportunity to rebuild most of a winning alliance like we were able to do. (Though we did have the same numbers in the alliance... ) Once again, your complimentary abilities and flexibility proved to be part of an effective winning strategy! What an outstanding Rookie Year you had! Great Job!!

Congratulations to Team #2405 "Divided By Zero" for your first Finals and event Win! Your ability to recycle balls and hang was a key part of our winning strategy! We hope you retain all of the lessons from this past season and come back stable and better than ever next year! :)

I know everyone has their opinions on how best to have played Breakaway. Looking to 2011, from our experience, after 3 event Wins where we built “underdog” alliances based on a team’s ability to be zone specialized, work complimentary to the alliance and provide a depth of offensive capability, I’ll say it again, for success in the eliminations. Scouting is Key! How sophisticated you do it depends on your resources, but it must be done during the quals, not last minute! Make sure everyone understands that the Scouts and the accuracy of their information plays a crucial role in success at events and as we say “Every job on this team is important”!

Best wishes to all & we hope to see everyone again in 2011!

Also, WMRI Veteran's remember your homework:

Bring at least one other team to WMRI next year.

I'd like to thank the teams and event organizers for another great WMRI tournament. Even the weather cooperated to provide a wonderful end (I think!) to Breakaway.

There were 18 teams, so everyone played in the eliminations in 6 alliances:
1 - 2075, 1918, 2015
2 - 2474, 107, 2245
3 - 1243, 3357, 2405
4 - 2645, 3234, 74
5 - 2271, 85, 2054
6 - 858, 141, 904

QF's:
1 and 2 got byes
4 over 5
3 over 6 (3 games, second was tie)

SF's:
4 over 1
3 over 2

F's:
3 over 4 (3 games)

Special recognition to team 2015 who worked with next year's rookies from Grand Haven all day.

Great event. I had so much fun! Just a tip for next year: we, 2075, have had our homecoming on the same day as WMRI so we really have a long day 5 in the morning till 1:30 in the morning not sitting :yikes: if there is anything you can do about that our future members will appreciate it (seeing as I am a senior I will not need to worry about it next year).
Thanks to 1918 and 2015, although we didn't win the matches I had fun competing with you.

Yes, WMRI was a blast! Being one the primary driver, during the elimination rounds was an experience that's pretty hard to top!

Thanks again 1243 for picking us, I too really wish we had the Tech Vikes, but Divided by Zero really pulled their weight!

Great job everyone!
