Hi everyone. This a reminder that the second annual Connect A Million Minds Invitational will be on June 25 this year at South HS in Columbus. We are limited to 24 teams and are about 1/3 full right now. There will be fliers at the Pittsburgh Regional and Buckeye Regional this year, but since Buckeye is late and there are more Central Ohio teams this year, we didn't want teams at Buckeye closed out of the event before the regional even opens, so we are posting reminders here on Chief Delphi. You can register at our Central Ohio Robotics Initiative web site here (http://www.growrobotics.org/?page_id=159).
The cost is $50 plus a canned food donation to the local food pantry near South HS. The event is sponsored by Time Warner (which has been great because the video of the event has played dozens of times on local cable over the past year) and the Central Ohio Robotics Initiative. It is held at South HS in the main gymnasium, with pits in the adjacent auxiliary gymnasium. Both are air conditioned! :) If you have any questions, please post or send me a message.

Hi! Team 2399 has been debating whether we can go or not to the Invitational. Are there still spots left for entry? Also, which teams will be attending? Just curious :)

I've heard tell that 1038 and 3138 are competing.
It's a good bet that 48, 379, and 3193 are also coming down from NEOFRA-land, but not 100% guaranteed. We have to register yet.
Registration will be done through www.growrobotics.org.

Yes I think 1038 is coming but not sure Paula George will be the FTA.
JonDarr Bradshaw will be the Announceer and Matt Murray the field M/C they did the Buckeye Regional.
A good time was had by all last year.

Mr. Kautz has done an excellent job helping to improve the areas that needed improvement from the first year (getting the Buckeye MC/Field announcing crew is a big plus, different group for the DVD of the event) and keeping the things (there were many) that went well. It should be another fun time.

Feeling a little crazy and our team is looking into all three Midwest Regionals because, let's face it, the East Coast teams keep beating us up, so we're looking for Midwest teams to beat us up in their own special way.
Are distanced teams allowed in, or just Ohio teams?
All Teams weclome
We will play nice.

I will add, for the benefit of any out of town teams, that South HS is fairly close to downtown Columbus, the Arena district and German Village, where there are lots of really nice places to eat.

Maybe this mapquest (http://mapq.st/kGOozI) link will set the picture? Click the knife and fork there to see restaurants.

Does the planning committee know how the alliance selections/elimination rounds will be structured? Will everyone make the playoffs, or will a smaller number of alliances be chosen?

Travis, assuming that we get a full 24 teams (which we are hopeful of) we are planning on having everyone making it to elimination. If we have less we are going to decrease the number. Either four alliances or possibly a set-up where the top seeded alliances get a bye into the semi-finals.
We have 7 opening left.

We are trying, I believe, for a web cast. Kautz knows for sure. It will be recorded and put on CD for the teams and it will be played on Time Warner's community access channel.
Yes , we will have the event webcasted. All teams will get a DVD of the event just like last year. Will post URL on CD.

The Central Ohio Robotics Initiative would like to once again thank Time Warner for their generous support of the Connect A Million Minds Invitational, South High School and its principal Dr. Wiley for hosting the event and all of the volunteers who helped pull it off. In particular Paul George our fabulous FTA, Chris Hartenstine our Master of Ceremonies, Andy Bruening, David and Nancy Baier, Ann Ralston, Wolf Lant, Lou Cherobee, Christine Wilson, Jeff Shermer and out indomitable tournament director Bill Kautz. We would also like to thank all of the attendees and teams who were patient as we worked through a bunch of technical problems early due to a blown main breaker for the gym.
And a big thank you to team 234, Cyber Blue, who arrived at the venue just as the truck with the field arrived on Friday. They pitched right in and got the truck unloaded and helped set up the field. It made things go so much more smoothly on Friday and is much appreciated. You guys are a great team that really exemplifies what FIRST is all about. Thanks again and I hope you come back next year!

This was a great event all around. Now we know our way around Columbus and can be more prepared for 2012*!
The venue is great for a competition, easy to get to and lots of space. It was great to meet and compete with lots of new teams.
Thank you to all of the planning committee and volunteers and to Time Warner and Connect A Million Minds.
Special Congratulations to Jacob Plasters from 3492 as the CORI Mentor of the Year.
* My typo, I meant 2012 for CORI.

2013? DO you know something we don't. FRC Regional in Columbus. We have been working with FIRST for a 2012 Cincy regional, but we haven't heard final word yet.

Nope, just a typo. I meant to say 2012 for next year's CORI event.

Hi everyone. The tournament management for the Connect A Million Minds Robotics Invitational has asked me to post a survey link (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N5Z9VGZ) here (it's a quick survey) about this past year's tournament. It is for team's that attended in June 2011. We are starting to make plans for next year and want to get the feedback. Thanks.
