Walking robots...
It starts with walking, then it's talking...
Soon we'll be underwater...in a pool suspended in the air.
Fly up, and dive into a pool to get the game piece...
I'm surprised nobody has thought bout this, maybe they are going to combine the 3 favorite FIRST games from the past 20 years into one super-anniversary game.

That would be real surprising, it's far too late in the process to drastically change the game.
Let the chaos commence!
Surely all the words he's put in bold from all the past blogs are an anagram for the game hint.
That would be real surprising, it's far too late in the process to drastically change the game.
That's next year's game, not this year's.
Walking robots...
Rolling with this, consider the fact that FIRST Choice has pneumatic muscles...
Anyone up for physiologically correct robot legs?

No no, you misunderstand...
The bottom of the legs will have mecanum/omni wheels on it... and they can't be powered by a motor. :yikes:

I'll never look at that brand name again honestly xD

Nah! Dave lives for our guessing! Why else throw out the red herrings? Certainly not to attract sea gulls! (At least I don't think so, but with Dave...)
I still like the idea of having to climb steps.

That's just the sexy dance move they all do at HQ. They probably salsa up and down the stairs, daily.

I have a feeling it's going to be stairs.
Plus while perhaps it was an easy location to take the picture in his post on 11/17, the FRC staff on the staircase was the first thing that came to mind.

One of my teammates had a good thought, maybe we have to stand things up...like cones!?! I'm no expert but it would be a fair challenge to try to pick up a cone and manipulate it into an upright position.
Just a thought(:

It doesn't seem likely stairs would be for anything but an equivalent of the hang-bar from other years score/accessibility wise.
I've been lurking the hint threads since my school had its first robotics meeting (Knowledge is power, and this place has a lot of it. So I came here) and it's maddening.

Does anyone else think that the vote of favorite FIRST game of all time is a little skewed.
Can we really reach a consensus when 95% (estimate) of the people who are voting have not seen more than 4 years of FRC?
Hence how the oldest game voted for is from '06...

I think this is another way to reach the alumni from the teams. They are also gauging that impact, etc.
It's all about reaching the alumni, I think.
Power building power disguised as a game. If you don't play by voting, you help to skew the numbers.

I think there my be more to Bill's Blogs than meets the eye...
Lets take "The view from 30,000 feet" for example. A quick search of flight at 30,000 feet finds this
"Depending upon the length of the flight and the type of aircraft, cruising altitudes typically vary between approximately 25,000 feet and 40,000 feet. For longer flights, it is not uncommon for an airliner to change cruising altitudes several times, gradually working its way to higher levels as it burns off fuel and becomes lighter in weight. This process is known as a step climb. For every flight, there is an optimum cruising altitude that is calculated based on weight. The step climb process is used to keep the aircraft at the optimum altitude as the plane's weight decreases over time."

The already pointed out fact that they took the group picture on the stairs...
For some reason the number 2 or two has been highlighted in some of Bills more recient posts. I wonder what this may bring?
Maybe there are two steps on the field, leading up to a central platform of some sort?
...or we could be interpreting this completely wrong, as usual, and the "2" is referring to the number of game pieces on the field, or the length of the match, or the number of minutes it takes to consume one tub of Haagen-Dazs.

2-minute teleop period, folks. Nothing to see here, Bill's just reinforcing an assumption.
Or 2 alliances. Same comment as above.
Or... He thinks that we're all 2 crazy right now, and is messing with our minds. What else is new?
P.S. What was significant about the number 5 in the official hint from 2007? Not the background, not the tube around it, just the number.
Anything between "not a whole lot" and "absolutely nothing".

So...much...thinking...
I find that in many areas of FIRST/FRC - a lot of thinking takes place. Strategy isn't just built into a game - it is built into the business aspects of successful companies, corporations, non-profits. In FIRST's case, they want to market the mission and goals well and celebrate milestones. What better way than to ask for people who have been involved in FIRST over the years - some since the beginning - to vote on their favorite games. That information is useful in many ways but the hook is the game.
For one thing, the members of the Game Design Committee love to make us think. They love to make the engineers think. Thinking is a big big part of being on an FRC team. The sooner we realize that, the more fun there is to be had. The business side of FIRST is capable of doing the same thing, using strategy and organizational planning in gathering information while engaging the teams and others in the process.

The evil Game Design Committee, you mean
As we tear apart every word from Bill (and Dave and ...whomever) to speculate on next year's game (3 weeks folks!), keep in mind the people behind the words.
Bill is ex-military. "Stand By" and "View from 30,000 feet" are just part of the vernacular of the military world. I see no hints there.
And Dave's a warm & fuzzy guy with cars dodging green men on Mars - thus a green fuzzy tennis ball.
Stairs? I dunno. Maybe that photo on the stairway WAS the only place for a decent photo. Boy would I love to see the challenge of a couple 8" tall steps.
Red herring? Nah, I see red and blue herrings...
Let the games begin!
If anyone watches WWE, maybe this year is sort of a Money in the Bank match. Where you have to climb a ladder(in this case some stairs) to reach a briefcase(in our game could be anything) that grants you ultimate power. Could be a points multiplier, free for all with scoring on any goals(if goals are part of game and are seprated by alliances), could be a timed kill switch against the other alliance. Now wouldnt that be fun =]
Red herring? Nah, I see red and blue herrings...
For those of us that live in an RGB world, are there also green herrings?

I dont think so because all the games are on youtube. I personally voted for FIRST Frenzy, Triple Play, and Ramp & Roll and I am not ever a part of FRC except the occasional volunteer and a mentor for FTC
I also think that the GDC is thinking about either adding a 3rd alliance or a 4th team to the current alliances

As soon as the official hints come out, you will be tearing your mind and soul to little tiny pieces from both a) wondering what the hint means and b) wanting to use your 2010 bot to kick people who post on the 10th page of the hint thread saying "THE OPAH IS A MOON FISH OMG MOON"*
*I swear, I'm not attempting to offend anyone if they were one of those people. I did stop trying to read the thread at that point, though.

This will likely fall on deaf eyes but - something else that occurs is a level of frustration. It can produce insults, rudeness, and sometimes, a less than polite post both from the person who is frustrated and quarrelsome and from the member who is attempting to re-establish some order. Now is a good time to remember that the hints are a fun aspect of enjoying the anticipation of the game challenge reveal and they should be handled in ways that reflect thinking and humor as they introduce chaos.
Veterans, it is almost time to don those flame resistant knickers. Don't allow them to get in a twist.
This is going to be so.much.fun.

Lol that's great Robert.
I like seeing the various guesses and people defending their points. The analzying of the words in the posts and the research into different things kind of set the mood for the season. It could give the rookies a taste of the spirit of FIRST and how we all become addicted to FIRST and love hint season I mean the Christmas season. :p
