I was going to use the USB Drive to format the notebook's memory, but I am not sure if there is something I am supposed to do or install first.

Are you talking about formating the netbook? If so, plug in the thumb drive boot up the netbook and repeatedly press f11, this should bring up the option to choose your boot device. Pick the thumb drive and then it should boot off of that. Afterword there are some files to download but you don't need to before you boot the thumb drive.

What programing language are you using? I would recommend labview. That's what I use and I like it. I you use Labview that will be on the netbook after you image it. I would recommend using a separate computer to program the robot and just use the netbook for your driver station. You can PM me if you have any questions.
