View Full Version : Good news for those who liked the old threaded view

Hi.
I know ever since we switched to this format, there have been numerous comments about how everyone misses the old threaded-style format over the new linear style forums.
Here is a quote from one of the top vBulletin developers:
The next major version of vBulletin *should* feature a threaded view option along with the linear view. There has been increasing demand for this feature and so we intend to work on it.
Release date? Sometime in Q1 2002.
So hopefully they will stick to it, and we will get to pick if we want to view linear or threaded. There seem to be alot of people who have the same opinion that vBulletin would be 10x better if it were threaded, like other forums.

To tell you the truth, I like the new version better in some ways. But if there were an option to view it as just a "thread" I would probably only view it that way at work where it would be faster to connect with a threaded page of text rather than a graphically intense site like the option now. My I-net connection at work is so slllloowww, when I go to view one page of thread now it takes a couple of minutes to load it. Even my 56k Dial up connection at home is faster than the LAN at work.!

When you switched formats at first I was really taken aback by not having the threaded view. I have since changed my mind. Also, going to threaded now would be hard since people rarely seem to use the "Subject" heading now.
~Tom~, who'll like Chief Delphi w/ or w/o threads. :)

I'm sure they'd make the subject a required field, to make it play a bigger role, if they were to release the new version with thread/nothread support.
Time will tell. I can't wait, even though I'd probably stay with linear.

They might even leave the decision of whether to go linear or threaded up to the individual users. There could be an option in the Control Panel asking the user whether they wanted liner or threaded.
I'm not sure whether vBulletin records exactly what post you pressed the reply button at, because if it does then it would be easy to go from linear to threaded. If not, then all of the replies would just be indented once past the initial thread. Either way it would work fine, but who knows.

Yes. One of the head developers has said something to the effect of 'yes, if we go threaded/linear, the user will be able to choose'
