Looks great! Are you sure the plastic will hold up under the torque? Also, it looks like the top gear doesn't quite line up, is this because of the camera agnle?

I have a feeling it's a plastic prototype.
Not exactly certain how it works but hey, looks cool and apparently shifts!

I'm guessing its another iteration of the famous 222 ball-lock trannys they've been pumping out for years. This is obviously a prototype as well.

Looks like a cool design for a 2 speed transmission.

Thanks for all the positive remarks.
This will not be used in competition, but it does actually shift. The problem is part strength and plastic spinning on plastic creates a melted pile of plastic.
Nick 222 will only be attending Boston and possibly Championships.
We have been making these transmissions since we introduced our three speed in 2004.
This year we are experimenting with springs outside the transmission rather than having them directly on the shifting plunger shaft.
squirrel you are correct that is a cutaway of a 3x5" tube.

Super super awesome! This is definitely one of the best innovations I've seen from a FIRST team... I loved it when I first saw the concept several years ago, and I love it even more seeing the new arrangement you've come up with.
Will you be using a metal version of this gearbox on your robot this year? If you make it there, I'll definitely be visiting your pit at champs to check this thing out.

Yet another sick gearbox from 222, very awesome. What's not awesome- you are not going to Philly this year. </3 :(

What are the specs on the 8WD in the video?
It looks like it handles really well.

Wheel base, offset, wheel size, floor speed?
I'm just asking because the point of rotation looked a bit rear biased where most 8WD's I've seen seem to rotate around the center.

Wheelbase is approximately 25".
Zero offset.
6" AndyMark Omni and Plaction wheels.
14 FPS and 5FPS
All the weight is in the back. ::ouch::
