View Full Version : Driver station on non-Classmate PC

I have read in several posts that one can get the Driver Station and Dashboard programs functioning on another PC by simply installing the Driver Station Update.

I tried this, but on startup the Driver Station application complains about many missing dll's and VI's. Perhaps one must also install the LabView program and its Update also.

Can someone clarify what is actually needed? Putting the full LabView on a little Dell Mini seems like overkill.

Thanks

I had previously read the entire thread you referenced and it did NOT answer my question.

That I why I posted my question.

This is a little different.

You don't need all of LabVIEW but you must install at least the LabVIEW Tools and cRIO Drivers, as well, to get the Dashboard working.
I think they are all in the Utilities Update, but I haven't tested to be sure.
So, from the Software Updates page, you need the Utilities and Driver Station Updates.

As you have it now, the Driver Station will run after you dismiss all the .dll complaints.
The missing .dlls are all from the Dashboard trying to start, too.

Thank you very much for your help Mark.

That part about installing the Tools and Drivers was not mentioned before. Glad I do not need to install the full 800 lb LabView gorilla.

Even after installyng the Utilities and Driver Station updates I needed two additional directories installed on the PC to make the Dashboard application happy.

These directories can be found on any computer where the updated FRC LabView has been installed. Here they are with their proper paths:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\RT Images\CommonVision
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Vision

Bit of a pain, but still way less than a full LabView Pro install.

You can get a portable version of the Driver station and imaging tool on my team's website: http://serviterobotics.org/apps.zip

Doug Norman from NI has confirmed that the additional FRC Vision Tools needed to run just the Driver Station and Dashboard on a PC can be installed from the Kit of Parts LabVIEW DVD.

Just make the second selection from the install window:
"Install only the FRC Tools"
