So I need a name for a new website.
Here is my goal:Create a resource website for FRC.
Including

FIRST Site quick links
cad resources (links to autodesk and firstcadlibrary.com as well)
programming tips
website tips
electrical tips
robot design tips
user posted info
etc.

I need clever name for this site..
I was thinking frcsource?
it would be frcsource.isgreat.org
the isgreat extension is for a free web server since i do not have the funding to go off of a regular server.

what do you guys think?

I definitely think you should make this website.
This may be a bit cheesy, but how about FIRSTStop? or firststop since URL's are'nt case sensitive.

1st, but i think you should change the color somewhere by FIRST because it's kind of hard to read. Maybe you could just try a blue FIRST above the stopsign, since youve already got white and red. and keep the logo where its at on the stop sign, i like that.

The only thing i would do different is actually "oversize" the "FIRST". Bascially what i mean is bigger than what you have now

Good. My only other idea, and im really having a hard time visualizing whether it would look good or not, is take the cool stripe pattern FRC "font" you had way back in this thread and use that for the STOP.

As much as I like most of those designs I would just like to mention that the use you have done with the FIRST logo infringes with the copyrights FIRST has on their logo.

What is your website going to provide that the FIRST community doesn't already have? What do you plan to do so that your site really is the "first stop" for teams, and not just another site with some links? Is this something that could easily be added to FIRSTWiki, where the whole community can contribute?

I don't want to sound like a downer. You've got a lot of energy and talent, and I'm sure whatever you create will be useful for some people. But creating a community-wide asset takes a lot of time and vision, and often the help of others. If you've already thought about these kinds of questions, then good job, and carry on!

I have thought these thoughts you thunk. I am planning on it taking time. I need a project for the spring :) And it is going to be more than just another site providing links. Links will be included but will not be the basis of the website. It is going to be a content rich website. There will be tutorials, videos, pictures, and in some cases, links to provide content for all fields of FRC

What programming language do you plan on using?
Any database requirements?
Do you have the domain name yet?
How do you plan on uploading/updating files?

Well I convinced my team to let me use our second domain name to create the website. It is now frcfirststop.com. I don't have much space but i think i can make do. I am presuming there will be a php, mysql, html, css, and javascript. Not sure if anything else will be used.

How much is "Not much", 1GB, 10GB, 100GB? Some content needs more than others, like video, images, some cad files, etc...:D
Is your team hosting the website too or you using a free hosting service?

10 gb between the team website and the FIRSTStop website. And yes we are hosting it on the server we pay for

1. You can still use the FIRST logo, as along as you make it legal. (contact them, etc.)

This site is a great idea. This is the best logo you suggested, though note that the FIRST logo usage breaks the copyright code (the red background). It would be best not to have the FIRST logo involved. Otherwise make the word FIRST a little bigger and extend down from the stop sign. This will help the legibility as well as the balance, by creating a sense of gravity in the design.
