Our team has been wondering what all is considered a common household light switch because they left that rule very open and unclear.

No they didn't - the GDC posted it on the official FIRST forum: http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?t=16347 They cleverly hid it in a post title called "Common Household Light Switches".
