Props for the internal gripper!

422 is using an internal gripper as well this year. External Grippers cause a lot of slippage and unlike our (and apparently your) internal gripper, can't be fixed or replaced easily after it gets wasted by another bot.

Make sure you practice with the full front bumpers on. They make for a more real game experience.
