I was checking the Team Updates (http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/content.aspx?id=450) and realized I hadn't checked software updates (http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/content.aspx?id=18758) in a while. I've missed a few. Was wondering if you all can confirm my list:
1. Team Updates - 16 and counting as of 03/02/2011
2. Cypress IO Firmware Update: still FRC_IO.v2.hex?
3. All teams (LabVIEW/C++/Java) - Utilities - FRC2011Utilities.zip (01/08/11)
4. All teams (LabVIEW/C++/Java) - Driver Station - FRC2011DriverStation2_27_11Update.zip (02/28/11 - 5 days ago!!!)
5-a. LabVIEW Teams - FRCLabVIEWUpdate3.2for2011.zip (02/16/11)
5-b. C++ Teams - Not sure but people should add here
5-c. Java Teams - Not sure but people should add here
6. Version of firmware that should be on cRIO: ??? not sure.

4. All teams (LabVIEW/C++/Java) - Driver Station - FRC2011DriverStation2_27_11Update.zip (02/28/11 - 5 days ago!!!)
This is optional, the previous version (from beginning of January) can be used also.

I saw a passing reference to this update in another thread here but I have seen no official announcement from FIRST on this... and there is no description on the update page to indicate what was changed. Anyone heard anything more about this?

All I know is the vague description jhersh posted (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1033826&postcount=5) yesterday: it is intended to "ease" configuration of the driver station computer's IP address.

The less vague description is that the 1-05-11 DS used add and delete to update IP settings for the wifi and LAN NIC. This was done so that computers with multiple LAN cards, or perhaps multiple wifi cards could more easily swap configuration. The DS would add the IPs it needed, and would later delete them if the team number changed or if the NIC changed.
The new DS 2-28-11 uses set to update the IP values. If a NIC is no longer being used, the DS sets the IP to DHCP.
The Jan. edition generally works fine, but on certain laptops has a tendency to collect IP addresses on the NICs. This can be seen using "netsh interface ip show ipaddresses" for Win7, and show config for XP. You can also view them using the IPV4 adapter settings and clicking on the Advanced tab.
If a DS has multiple 10.xx.yy.zz addresses assigned to the LAN, this can cause the DS to fail to connect to the field. The DS will look for responses on one IP and the field may send them on another.
If your laptop connects to the field with 1-05-11, your IPs are good, or you got lucky. If it doesn't connect to the field, verify you do not still have the 10-22 version from the initial classmate image, check for the correct IP address and only one IP address. If you update to the 2-27 edition, it does this for you.
Other precautions you may want to take with your DS at the event -- especially if this is your own laptop ...
* Disable the wifi adapter. It will save power, cut down on traffic, and prevent the laptop from joining any "trusted" networks that are in the profile cache.
* Relax the firewall settings, or disable the firewall entirely.
* Ensure that you have a Driver account and are logged into it when you go to the field. If your DS has a title bar, the account is not Driver.

We have this (kind of) mirrored on our code wiki at http://code.google.com/p/chopshop-166/wiki/SoftwareVersionsForCompetition, but this is REALLY good to have, and important to know. We thought we had some problems at GSR because we hadn't heard anything about the update, and somehow inspection didn't bring it to light.
This is optional, the previous version (from beginning of January) can be used also.
Per Ken Mitchell, FIRST NorCal Assistant Regional Director and FTA Wizard, the Drivers Stn v02.27.11 is mandatory for the Silicon Valley Regional, email dated March 23. Ken worked a lot of connection problems at the Sac/UCD Regional.
Maybe we'll get the Tuesday Team Update about this, and I'm not going to squabble about its source.

I'm right there with you. I was FTAA at the WPI regional and almost every connection issue we had on practice day seemed to be with that version. Once teams updated it, 95+% of the issues were resolved. I would require it at any regional I attend, either as an inspector or FTA(A).
