In a wonderful display of unfortunate timing and poor team organization we have run into an issue ordering from McMaster. We usually place orders through one of our (awesome) sponsors but our ordering contact is on leave at the moment, and we aren't a "large enough company" ourselves to have an account with McMaster ourselves.

Would any teams in the NY area with a McMaster account be able to order it for us and bring it to the New York Regional? The total amount would be <$40.

Our school has never had issues ordering with McMaster and I am pretty sure we are the only ones who do it.

Any reason why you cannot simply create an account?

Thank you for your order. Unfortunately, due to the ever increasing complexity of United States export regulations, McMaster-Carr will only process orders from a few long-established customers in Canada. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this causes you.

Thank you

Just one of the joys of being Canadian:rolleyes:

Oops, didn't notice that one

Well, in response to that I must say, lucky you for having a "long-established customer" helping you out.

I will talk to our director of procurement tonight or tomorrow morning and find out what we can do. My only worry would be will the order show up in time.

Odd. I can order from McMaster without an account... All I need is a credit card!

But you aren't Canadian...

How strange that this would matter...

Just one of the joys of being Canadian:rolleyes:Can you order the parts poste restante/general delivery (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) to the closest US Post Office, drive across the border, pick up the parts, then drive back to Canada?

Make arrangements for your hotel to receive the package and hold it for you. (I've done this a few times before; it's always worked fine.)

(And at least in the past, I've been able to make Canadian orders from McMaster-Carr without an issue. Hopefully that makes me one of their valued long-established customers.)

Just don't try to get a catalog (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=418021&postcount=7) from them.

Thanks for the help everyone. It looks like I will get the pleasure of meeting jblay in person.

Circa 2009 I could too but I guess I'm classified as "nuisance low volume - infrequent" customer

I'll keep this in mind if I ever represent a $16.5 billion dollar company. I'm mostly ticked that I got the form letter informing me of this a day after they gave me an Order confirmation. (I feel it wouldn't be hard to inform people when they enter a non US address that they need to be special)

Send me the amounts & ID #s either here or to my email (DriptoDebroy(at)gmail(dot)com) and I'll see what I can do. Although I'm not sure if it would make it in time. It might come in late on friday. Also post the address you would want the package shipped to.

For those of you that don't know, McMaster-Carr's Facility is only about 1.5 hours outside of NYC. Depending on when you get into the City for the Regional, you may be able to go directly to McMaster and pick your parts up through will call - if you've rented a car, or drove down or whatever.

You don't need an account the nearest wharehouse is NJ and they don't charge sales tax to ny. Just call or go online and place your order and you will get it next day if you call before 5pmEST

Just don't try to get a catalog (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=418021&postcount=7) from them.I honestly think Dave had an isolated bad experience, as my experience with McMaster for personal, academic, team, and company projects has been nothing but exceptionally fast, reliable, and professional service.

If you want a McMaster catalog, just consistently order a lot of parts and they'll send you their catalog unsolicited after a few years; at least that's how 228 started receiving McMaster catalogs every year.
