Should the Digital Sidecar be warm/hot? We are going check our wiring tomorrow night. I'm assuming that incorrect wiring is what we may discover.

No, it should not be hot.
Are the three power lights all brightly lit?
If any are out or dim, then there's a power short or disconnect.
It can be a a short in your wiring. Test it without anything plugged in.
The case can also have collected metal dust and particles inside and can be opened and cleaned out.

also check any wires going in for a short between + and - . same for bent pins or the like.
We mounted our electrical board vertically and had a loose PWM cable hang right by the main positive supply on the power panel. Needless to say, our sidecar blew at our test run. Good thing we had a spare back at our build site.
