View Full Version : National Anthem at Championship

So, I came up with an idea, so I'm starting this to see if anyone would be interested. I thought of making a group of people (8-12) to sing the national anthem (Star Spangled Banner, US) at the Championship. Hopefully the group would be one person per team so we could spread the range of people in the group. However, because of limited practice time, I figured 12 people (3 per part on SATB) would be the maximum amount of people we can have to pull it off. What do you guys think? If you're interested PM me, so I can organize who's in the group. I'll go off a first come, first serve basis, although if the first 11 are all from the same region I might be lenient.
Soprano- 3 People
Alto- 3 people
Tenor- 2 people (I'll be on tenor)
Bass- 3 People
When you PM me, if the group's not already full I will PM you back with the music so were all on the same page. We'll rehearse it on Wednesday night hopefully or Thursday morning.
Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Not to disappoint, but the National Anthem plans are likely already finalized for the event. The Championship is a great deal more formal than any other FIRST event and they are not going to be recruiting groups of students to perform at that time.
However, I would never want to discourage anyone from practicing or singing The Star Spangled Banner. :)
And it is a very nice suggestion, so thank you for thinking of it.
The Chesapeake Regional has a tradition of an all student chorus for opening ceremonies on Friday and Sat. Any student from any team signs up on Thursday, they organize themselves, they practice a few times and always make us proud. Highly recommend this approach at the Regionals.
Meredith is likely correct. The script on this is already in place.

Nick,
To add to Meredith and Jenny, contact First NOW. While they may have things set, there is always the possibility that they may be open for one of the days. You (we) might just get lucky.
I would love to see people planted throughout the audience lead the entire stadium in singing it.
If one out of every 10 people in the stands were willing to boldly lead, I'll bet the rest would follow.
The song can certainly inspire when it is heard passively; but it can do so much more when it is actively sung (and played).
It's something I have on my bucket list.

Oh to be in the right place at the right time - near a stairwell when a group of students is practicing the National Anthem. That has happened to me twice in my travels in FIRST and both times were simply simply amazing. The beauty and majesty of the harmonies brought tears to my eyes.
Thank you for reminding me of those moments and good luck with your suggestion. :)

I don't remember if they do, but do (or should) they have national anthems from all the countries of teams participating? It IS the World Festival...

They do not. It is simply impossible with 61 countries represented. There is always a gracious mention of the situation and welcome to all the attending countries.

wow, I didn't know that. I'm actually suprised they even have the US anthem if they don't do the other ones.

Welcome to the USA!;)
It would be cool to have them all sung, last year at NCR the Brazilian anthem was sung for team 1772 which was a real treat!:)

well, nevermind. I called to double check with FIRST, and they do already have plans for the National Anthem at St. Louis. I guess I just thought of the idea a little too late. Maybe next year
The Brazilian team, 383 sang their anthem at the Connecticut Regional last weekend. They always sing it. They might not be professional, but they do it proudly.

And the Brazilian Anthem is a beautiful piece of music.
