During the entire Virginia regional, many members of both our teams and others have been wondering what has been in Shawn's backpack the whole time. We've never seen him without it! He said he will take it off and open it, if 25 wins St. Louis. So, any guesses?

An extra ladder incase 25's breaks they dont have to go back to the pits to fix it.

On another note, as we were packing up after the North Carolina I was walking around with my backpack on and had a thought that I should have been wearing it the whole time kinda like Shawn. Oh well maybe next year.

Shaun is never without his backpack.

I've SEEN what's in it and believe me you will never guess

I WISH he could magically pull $5000 out of it so we can register for St Louis. And Shaun will give you his backpack for that

Hmm... is it an Iron Man suit? He probably packed it so he could fly victory laps around the gym when a team wins an award. :D

From Arefin's post, it almost sounds like there's a singing Karthik in the backpack.

Or else a trackball, plus Thunderchicken and Simbot gripper components and a Tumbleweed bumper.

Shawn already shown me before what was in it but why waste a perfectly good thread.
Keep guessing kiddies.

A prototype DeWalt 36 volt cordless drill for quick repairs, but he never has to use it, as their robot never needs repairs.

Heheh, we kept asking him, but he would not tell.

I could always go ahead and be THAT guy by saying he has a water bottle, but thats too normal. Hmmmm, maybe some 5 guys fries. If we are talking 2008, then Id say the blueprints and sketches behind 1114's robot, hand drawn by Karthik.

Any robot sketches drawn by me would be more suitable for a Crayola commercial. Definitely not worthy enough for the mysterious backpack.

My guess is a stash of lens cleaning towelettes (a gimme from the photo), and heading down that path, we'd then have:

* A JVN Voodoo doll
* An autographed photo of Wayne Cokeley
* An evil sundae (in tupperware)
>> All three for luck
* His wallet and cell phone
* A supply of Band-Aids
* A small towel
* Three blue M&Ms
* Two #35 master links (Team 25 hasn't broken one in many years)
* A stuffed bear

heh.

JesseK

All of his coach buttons from every competition he's ever coached for good luck

Or maybe just some bottled water for the drivers since there's sometimes not a good spot on the cart for it

Or perhaps some emergency tools -- #10 bolt tools, zip ties, etc -- for the "oh crap we didn't do X" moments you experience when you set the bot down on the field, realizing something's loose, dangling, or otherwise about to ruin your match

(I've never seen inside, but this is what would be in my backpack if I had one)

Wayne C.

We just got back from Walmart and for some reason Shaun picked up luggage locks. I don't know whether it is to keep folks out or keep the stuff inside in

HOW DID YOU KNOW?!

I've seen what's inside. I will never reveal the Shaun Backpack Secret. (http://www.marriedtothesea.com/022406/never-reveal.jpg)

My guess would have to be either...

A. Massive master scouting binder?
B. Some seriously awesome tool kits?
C. Magic Pixie Dust?

I'm predicting there is a smaller backpack inside his backpack.

Nawaid Ladak

considering the 2008 hint, it's probably a SimChicken (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/img/7ad/7adf6a3b309a3d6d2076e73682642e81_m.jpg) T-Shirt or VEX Parts.

Maybe the real identity of Looking Forward is written somewhere on a sheet of paper inside the backpack. (LF got one team from each division right, along with the entire Newton Division winning alliance).

Family photos and small trinkets that mean something to him. There are many teams that I've met that are filled with passion and drive and 25 ranks right there at the top. They are also very gracious hosts to out-of-town visitors. This thread helped me to remember that. :)

Shaun's Backpack - The Challenge

Since so many people are interested in Shaun's backpack we came up with a game

If you can sneak a plastic easter egg with a memento from your team inside Shaun'S backpack without him knowing it you will be entered into a drawing for one of our Hawaiian shirts or another special priZe

This is going to be a real challenge. He is looking for you. And he is a sneaky cuss himself

Are you up to the challenge?

I'm thinking that the only way to get something in to Shawn's backpack is if Shawn puts it in there (maybe someone from 25 could sneak it in). Maybe the only way to get an Easter egg in there is to disguise it as something else so Shawn will unwittingly put it in his backpack.

Are you up to the challenge?
Thank you, thank you all. Yes, it was a challenge to get the first egg into his backpack, but I did.

My prizes included a team 25 shirt, a bag of cheetos (puffed), a look inside the backpack (now I know the secret, but cannot tell) and the admiration of a bunch of team 25 folks.

And Shaun learned a lesson: Don't trust anyone :D

Fun times, thanks Wayne for cooking this up.

Technically, I got the first egg into his back pack on wed. night. He was the one holding egg #3 for our egg hunt in there. I got to take a look too. Interesting stuff, don't ya think? I will be getting my prize mailed to me. Wahoo!

Interestingly enough, I saw Shaun open his backpack for a moment during the Newton Alliance selection.

4 Hours later Team 25 was on Einstein...
