I really like the name of this event. Reminds me of a great scene in the movie "My Cousin Vinny"

Hahaha, yeah it does.
I'm fairly certain 1261 will be showing up there again. Our 20 or so rookies had a BLAST at GRITS last year. Some of them got a chance to drive while others got jumped up just watching.
Who else is thinking of coming down?

I'm going to make a push for this within my team (if we don't go too crazy planning SCRIW that happens two weeks afterward here in Columbia). I went to the first GRITS event in 2009, and it was pretty awesome! If you're remotely close, it's worth the trip.

The challenge, as always, is logistics--but you can bet it's on my List Of Things We Should Do...if we do, I'm definitely down for a Peachtree reunion with y'all and 1771. If all else fails, we're going to need to train new drivers--both of our drivers going back to our rookie year are graduating this year.

GRITS is a perfect opportunity to let new drivers get the feel of FIRST and to try out several drivers becaus the atmosphere is so relaxed. Plus, the venue is the coolest place ever to hold a robotics competition.

Mr. Wilson's right on both accounts here. We've let our rookies drive during the qualifications and then veterans take over during the finals. It's worked out OK in the past, and I'm sure we'll continue some variation of that at this year's GRITS.

Y'all come on down and have some GRITS !!

I was hoping to bring our team this year, but unfortunately GRITS is the same weekend as our local BEST competition gameday. This looks like a great venue and event - hopefully next year we'll make it.

And yes, boys and girls, that really is a real SR-71 Blackbird to the side of our GRITS field. You will never have a chance to get any closer!
It's a wonderful venue for a wonderful event. Y'all Come!

Does anyone have a teams list for the event? I know it's kind of early, but I was just curious.
- Sunny G.
I will get it and post it next week. It filled to 2/3 capacity relatively quickly, 1/3 to go.

That last third is always the killer, isn't it? (We're in about the same position with SCRIW, even with the advantage of two extra weeks compared to GRITS.)

Thanks for the reminder. It turns out I cannot post the list until it fills and it is near filled or filled as of this second. I'll see if we can turn it loose after Monday's meeting. It should be really really soon !!!

You're so weird Sunny. JK. We're pretty pumped too. Looking forward to letting some new kids get in on the action.

Ditto. I still remember sitting in the arena hearing that 2415 picked 1771 and thinking two words: "Good game."
It's looking like 2815 won't be able to swing it--budget, mostly--but I might have to swing down for this.

Our team has veteran drivers, but we usually let the rooks take the reigns during qualifications.
I'm primarily giddy because of the level of the game play. To be honest, for the past couple of years, only a small, small handful of teams have shown up to play. This year, it seems like we're looking at least 4-5 solid teams with the potential of 3-4 more to really make some small changes and come in big. Obviously it's no IRI, but it's exciting.
- Sunny G.
I know that FLASH team 1319 is excited to see all of our GA friends again. We have not been able to attend Peachtree since 2010, we hope to train some new drivers as well as participate in some fierce competition in the best venue around.

Team 1002 (CircuitRunners) is excited to show up and present our freshmen and rookies an opportunity to compete with the best from last year!
The 2011 GRITS is in the books. Great competition Thanks to all the volunteers for making it happen. Thanks to the Warner Robbins AFB & Museum of Flight for allowing it to happen there. Nothing like having a SR71 overlooking you in the pits to inspire you.
We have a team tradition. Every year when we leave GRITS we go up the street for a little team banquet at Waffle House !!
G.R.I.T.S. was a great event this year, the volunteers were nice and the venue is still the best place to hold an event without question. Everyone in FIRST should attempt to make the trip at least once. There were a lot more teams in attendance then there were in 2009 when we first attended so it appears to be growing I hope the venue and the volunteers can keep up.
I would like to first thank 1311 Kell for picking us (and our rookie drivers) in the elimination rounds. Playing with 1311 and WALT 2974 was a blast and winning the event made it even better. Our alliance complimented each other very nicely.
It was nice to see 832 again, you all had a great looking robot and the wiring job was one of the nicest that I have seen in a while.
2415 and 1771 were inspiring as always both of your elevators are making us finally look into adding that type of system to our arsenal of offseason developments.
