For the last 20 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Detroit Red Wings have participated. This is the 20th year of FIRST. So as Championships starts tomorrow, the question came up. Are there any teams that have made the Championships for all 20 seasons? If not, who has the longest streak?

Team 45 has been to them all I believe. We are one of the few remaining teams from the FIRST year

I know 190 has, and I imagine the majority of the original and sustaining teams have as well, seeing as they receive automatic invites for as long as they participate.

The blue alliance only dates back to '03 so you'll have to ask one of the mentors from one of the 20 years teams.

20 year old teams

Team 20 - "The Rocketeers", Clifton Park, NY
Team 45 - "The TechnoKats Robotics Team", Kokomo, IN
Team 126 - "Gael Force", Clinton, MA
Team 148 - "Robowranglers", Greenville, TX
Team 151 - "Tough Techs", Nashua, NH
Team 190 - "Gompei and the H.E.R.D.", Worcester, MA
Team 191 - "X-CATS", Rochester, NY

I'm not sure when the grandfather* invitation rule was implemented, but I'm pretty positive 190 has been to championships every year, and I would imagine most of the original and sustained teams have been every year as well.

*teams which have competed every year since 1992 get an invitation to the championship every year, and are considered "grandfathered" in to the championships.

Edit: Joe beat me

I know team 45, the TechnoKats, have participated in FIRST since it began. I don't know if they have been to all championships though.

EDIT: Wow, beaten by miles.

I know this probably won't count, but Team 71 has been to every FIRST championship since the team started in 1996. They also won four of them. I think that's pretty impressive :)

Someone might correct me on this, but I've never heard of 151 being considered an original and sustaining team. There are a number of NH teams, including 319, that were invited to "pilot" some games pre-season earlier in FIRST history, and were ineligible to compete in the challenge that year. As such they lost the "sustaining" aspect of the grandfather clause (debatable, but it's how FIRST considers it). I believe that 151 is also one of those teams.

Other teams which competed in 1992 but are not considered sustained include 111 Wildstang and 97 The Cow

Heh, "20 for 20" is team 20's slogan this year. I believe we have been to championships every year, but not positive.

151 is on the list here (http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/content.aspx?id=944).

I wonder if anyone would lose sustaining status if they took a year off?

I don't know if there are any more automatic invites. Team 176 had to qualify this year to go. They began in 1995-1996 season

There are no longer automatic invites. Team 176 had to qualify this year to go.
HoF and Original and Sustaining teams still have auto invites. Same for last year's Champions and EI.

176 is not one of the pre-qual teams listed.

according to http://usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/content.aspx?id=944, original and sustaining teams can sign up initially.

What I think you mean is that few (if any) teams got pulled off the wait list because so many teams that qualified decided to attend.
