Robots for a Cure – MARC is Going PINK!

Steve Ketron of Team 1528, head mentor for Monroe Trojan Robotics and host of the MARC event, has teamed up with Team 3098 to turn MARC Pink!

Team 3098, The Captains from Waterford Kettering High School, recently had one of their teacher’s wives diagnosed with breast cancer. Each year, MARC picks a charity or organization to help. After a few emails and phone calls, Steve Ketron and MARC has gratefully selected to help 3098 and “Rally for Meghan Malley!” Please help and Rally with us! All the proceeds raised will go directly to Mike and Meghan Malley along with their Susan G Koman Race for the Cure 3-Day team. We’re calling all teams that are going to be at MARC to rally with us and help beat this thing!

Help us in the following ways and Rally with Team 3098 for Meghan Malley!
Mentor tournament – 24 team tournament - $25, teams can pre-register with Steve Ketron : ketron@monroe.k12.mi.us
Silent Auction – Please help us out and bring an item for the auction.
Team T-Shirts – Please bring a team t-shirt to donate for the silent auction.
MARC Event shirts – official game shirt sales (that are going to be pink by the way)
Team 3098 : Robots for a Cure bracelets for $1

Other items we want teams to do for the event is:
We plan on bringing a large card/sign for Meghan and her husband Mike Malleys for all the teams to sign
Survivor/honor night on Friday – If you are one, know of a family member, friend, etc. that has survived any type of cancer, we want to honor them after qualifying matches on Friday night.
Have your team write messages of hope and encouragement on your team t-shirt, 3098 will then deliver them to Meghan.

If you have any other ideas or anything to add, please let us know. You can contact our lead mentor, Steve Smitka, at smitks01@wsdmi.org

Please help make MARC a great competition for a great cause! Go Teams!

This is an awesome cause, any chance you can make the T-Shirts or Bracelets available for purchase online?

Susan G. Komen For The Cure has done an amazing job creating essentially a brand around Breast Cancer Fundraising and awareness. The pink theme and pink ribbons make it easy to make any event a fundraiser for cancer research.

I'll have to check into this for you. I do know this for sure, we're going to have a few 3098 Black and Pink shirts available to sell at MARC, and then the MARC event shirts themselves are going to be pink with all the MARC information on them. Once I have an answer about sending shirts out, I'll let you know.

3098 just got done competing at IGVC and we wore our Black/Pink Captains t-shirts for the first time this off-season. We had some people show interest in purchasing these shirts, so here is a picture (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=31490138&l=31571987e6&id=1292404211)of the limited 3098 "Let's Beat This Thing" t-shirts that we'll have available at MARC, we're asking for a donation of $20 (or more if you'd like!) but once they go, we're out!

We're still looking for teams to help out donating items for our silent auction. AndyMark has already donated a package of goodies to auction off and we're looking to get some more! Please help out this great cause!

I certainly want one of those tshirts!!!!

I am a mentor from Team 910, and a 7 year Breast Cancer Survivor!!!

I want to personally thank you for dedicating this event to Meghan Malley and Susan B. Koman. The push to find a cure is because of events like this.

Every little part helps. I was a mess when I found out I had cancer but I was given an absolute plan to follow. I didn't have the strength to think about the whole thing but I could work to the next planned milestone. It is because of the fund raising that goes on for the cure that I was able to recieve such a clear, defined plan.

Thank you for all you do. thanks for MARC, and thanks for letting The Foley Freeze come back every year!!!!

1732 has made some limited edition pink buttoms special for MARC to show our support. Stop by our pit to pick one up. I'm not sure how many we made, but it didn't look like a ton, so the sooner you stop by the better.

I was wearing pink down here in Texas yesterday to help honor your cause with all of you up there. From the photos I've seen, you all look amazing.

The event was a huge success again this year. I want to thank all the volunteers for making MARC so great. I really appreciate everything you all do for me and MARC. I want to really thank everyone for helping MARC and team 3098 raise approx. $2500 for the cause. I am sure Meagan and her 3-day team will appreciate every bit of this donation.

I can't remember (probably due to exhaustion) all the teams that were finalist or winners of MARC 2011 so if someone could post it I would appreciate it. I want to again give a shout-out to the MARC Volunteer of the Year (Ed "KOKO" Patterson) and MARC Mentor Recognition Award winner Enrique Robinson (2612). Congrats to both of you. You both really deserved it.

Team 3098 would like to thank all of the MARC volunteers, teams, and most importantly Steve Ketron, for putting on this awesome event together! It was such a great success. We cannot thank everyone enough! Please check out our team facebook page for pictures (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1817286193898.2091058.1292404211&l=02df70b1d2)from the event.

If you are going to IRI, we'll have some of the MARC pink t-shirts available along with some of our hot pink Team 3098 : Robots for a Cure wristbands.

Once again, thank you to EVERYONE that was a part of this great event!

I can't remember (probably due to exhaustion) all the teams that were finalist or winners of MARC 2011 so if someone could post it I would appreciate it.

The Finals included the #1 Alliance - Adambots, HOT and Foley Freeze (sorry, I missed their 4th team) vs. the #2 Alliance - the (FIRST) Dragons, Las Guerilas, the Hilltoppers and WMD.

In two very close matches the #2 Alliance upset the #1 Alliance.

Thanks to our Alliance partners - 469, 1732 and 2612 - you were great to work with!!:)

FIRST Team 302 - The Dragons

PS - Good luck to everyone at IRI

Thanks to 302 for inviting us to join their alliance and 469 and 2612 for being great partners. After our qualification match with 302, I actually texted our lead scout to bump 302 up a couple of spots because they were a pleasure to work with and would be a great partner in the elimination rounds. So, it was good to get a couple of extra matches being on the same alliance. It's pretty cool to think of all the amazing teams and alliances we had to get through to win the event.

Huge thanks to Steve Ketron and all the other volunteers and organizers for a fantastic event. It is pretty cool to see what this event has become since the first year with 12 teams. The rule changes, especially the minibot point changes, made the game very balanced and exciting. The Hilltoppers will gladly make the 6 hour drive to attend MARC in the comming years!

PS: JPC, are we related? :)
