As some of you know, MARCStats is being redeveloped (again) for this year's game. This year I want to see ALL the major bugs ironed out, so I need some clarification on how scoring works.

QUALIFICATION SCORE (Formerly Seed) -

Winning alliance receives 2 QS points
Losing alliance receives 0
Tie gives 1 point to both alliances
Winner of minibot race in event of a tie gets 2, other alliance gets 0
Red card results in 0 points for the team that received it

RANKING POINTS -
Previous - Accumulated ranking points throughout the event

Winning alliance = Previous + Loser's unpenalized
Losing alliance = Previous + Loser's Penalized
Tie = Previous + Respective alliance penalized
Red card results in no addition to Previous to the team that received it

RANKING SCORE -
Accumulated RANKING POINTS / Number of matches played, TRUNCATED to 2 decimal places

COOPERTITION -
Ignored, does not affect ranking

SURROGATE TEAMS -
Unsure, should I mess with these? I don't think they really do this other than in elims, which MARCStats doesn't feature yet.

RANKING ORDER -

Qualification
Ranking
Max Score
Random - Ignoring, because it probably won't happen and it's impossible to replicate FMS' random ordering anyway.

QS:
The Minibot is not a factor in quals, other than winning the match, scoring points, and all that. In elims, in the event of a tie, minibot winner gets one single point in the match score to win the match. (5.4.4)

Ranking: Correct.

Surrogates: Surrogates are not used in eliminations. Backup teams can be called in, but they are never called surrogates. Surrogates are teams who play an extra match in quals to ensure that all teams get the requisite number of matches. They get no qualification or ranking points. See Section 1.6 for the definition. (Note: Always the third match if using the FMS.)

Ranking order: Correct.

Thanks a lot. What would be the easiest way to know whether a team is a surrogate or not, and do surrogate matches count toward the number of matches that team has played?

Surrogate matches do not count in the rankings nor the number of games played. They are marked with an S in one of the columns of the printed schedule. We never saw them in Michigan as each team got 12 matches.

If (number of teams) * (number of matches) is divisible by 6, surrogates are not needed.

Won't MARC be using the FMS software for scheduling, scoring and ranking?

MARC will be using FMS as usual, but for the last 3 years we've been trying to integrate a web-based stat system. Since we can't tie in directly to FMS, the system has to calculate everything by itself.
