Curious as to what well-known games across platforms robotics people have "played-through" or played a lot of. In other words, you have played more than just an hour of said game. For each game, theres a "i play..." or "i don't play..." option so that we get an idea of intra and inter popularity.

How could i forget about Pokemon!!! *slaps self*

But then again, every robotics member in the history of FIRST has played Pokemon. ;)

It seems as if most everyone plays minecraft! I'm also disappointed you didn't put pokemon on the list! There would be 9001 votes for it by now!

I suppose the only "well-known" games I play are Mario and Pokemon. Though, I think Dragonquest should have made the list. I guess most of my other games are considered less then well-known.

I find it strange that the higher numbers on the list represent games people DON'T play.

It seems that one of the most commonly conversed-about game of this list is Portal, and rightfully so.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is quite possibly the best game of all time.

Other games that could be the best ever include: Super Mario 64, Pokemon Red/Blue, Mario Kart 64...

Super Mario Bros 3? The 64 had alot of good games, but most don't compare to their predecessors on the SNES.

I think the fact that there are so many "don't play" votes might be an indication that FIRSTers are more likely to play lesser-known games. It might indicate that we do more research before buying or that we think more for ourselves before buying into the hype.

I'm a little too young to have played the SNES when it was still the latest and greatest system. I still prefer the old school games to the ones they are making now though.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. A couple of notes:

Everybody's played Tetris sometime in their life, so it's kind of pointless.
Even though i know everyone would also put they've played pokemon, i completely forgot, and apologize.
I cannot believe that the majority of the people don't play Halo. Although i don't play it, i expect a lot more XBOX 360 people around here.
Minecraft had a preponderance of "I do" votes in the beginning, but now its getting close to .500
No surprise that Mario's a clear cut first.

Thanks for the votes,
-duke

On the topic of old gaming systems...before my family got a PS2 in 2003 (we never had a N64, which was popular when I was in elementary school, and I think that we got our Gamecube shortly after the PS2), I remember playing Frog Bog, Pac-man, and Donkey Kong on my dad's Intellivision. I would rather play those than Halo, honestly.

Lesser-known???? Are you trying to tell me games like Super Mario Bros 3, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Pokemon, and all of the great games listed above aren't well-known? They're some of the most popular and greatest games on the history of history!

The majority of the games you mentioned fell into the poll. I'm talking about games that didn't make the poll. LostMagic for the DS for instance. I never heard of it until I was doing research for a new game but when I did it looked good. I bought it and was very satisfied with it. I wonder if the poll results show that FIRSTers are more likely to follow the same course of action as I did rather then from commercials or friends.

Gotcha. That makes sense. For my team, we choose games based off of what our team members say. For example, my teammates introduced me to Chrono Trigger and Fire Emblem, both excellent games.

You guys didn't mention classic platformers, like Donkey Kong, Mario Kart... We're fond of the antiques. N64 all the way! But seriously, though. My Atari Flashback 2 at home will be very sad to be left out of this poll.

Ticket to Ride (http://www.amazon.com/Days-of-Wonder-DOW-7201/dp/0975277324/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327604461&sr=8-1) playable on any flat platform of adequate size. This is a wonderful board game that has a good mix of strategy with just enough luck to keep it exciting. it is much more simple to explain than RISK or Settlers of Cattan (5-10 minutes), but has great depth of strategy both offensive and defensively. Game last approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour. Very fun from 2-5 players.

Not quite as strategic as Settlers, but pretty entertaining is Polarity (http://www.museumtour.com/product/5140/Polarity-The-Game). Basically, you've got to use magnetic fields to lean magnets against other magnets, and as the board starts to fill up you start getting unintended consequences as the fields begin to interact. It's great to play with a lot of people, it has suspense kind of like Jenga. (It's also fun to just play with the magnets)

Here's a video of it on youtube, it is kind of hard to explain without a board. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM1I4yXupZs)

I LOVE Minecraft. I've been looking for a server to play on, though. Anyone have a space available?
