The 2011 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus is scheduled to happen October 29th site to be determined (though still in Rochester. Otherwise it wouldn't be the Rah Cha Cha Ruckus...). 24 (or so) teams. Fun Halloween themed atmosphere. Pie in the Eye fundraiser!
A great time to be had by all!

SparX will be there, you know it!!

As usual, we plan to be there!

Maybe we can team together again and scratch out that little match at Finger Lakes!! You know, the one where both our bots went out on us? :)

Seriously, can't wait to work with the great teams of the Finger Lakes Region again!

I know you're referring to this year, but iirc that has happened every single FLR qualification round where 1126 and 1551 have been paired together. It's like 1551 + 1126 = disaster. (Though in '08 we made it to the finals together, and came so, so very close to winning FLR, so the jinx seems to be quals only.)

We'll be back with an upgraded (read: functional) tube-handling mechanism, a much faster minibot (if 340 lets us steal a Steve design), and if we can get it built in time, a super-duper cool robot demo device. (Insert maniacal laughter here.)

Yeah... Even just looking at this year, a match where 1551 and 1126 can only put up 10 point, there's some sort of witchcraft going on.

And you guys have an already impressive robot, so best of luck on your robot improvements! We look forward to competing with (and against ;) ) teams as great as yours!

It is interesting that you mentioned Steve! We borrowed Steve's design, upgraded it, and now I think GRR is using our upgraded design. Word of caution: Steve does NOT do well under pressure, and has a tendency to stall and cost you matches.

Either way, SparX looks forward to the Ruckus!! (and of course, that strip of colorful LEDs on the robot!)

I'm aware of the Steve-collaboration... :D

I just don't have the budget to do all those iterations, especially not for an off-season event.

1551 + 340 + 1126 in an alliance together with 3 steves!?! that would be a sight to see, although we couldn't deploy them all at once!

The Rah Cha Cha Ruckus web site is now updated for the 2011 event!
The site is at:
http://ruckus.penfieldrobotics.com

Registration for both teams and volunteers is open as well, and can be done via the website.

The entry fee will not increase this year, remaining at $100.

Additional details in the works which will be added to the site soon, as well as sent to registered teams:

Awards, awards, awards!
"Fun events" details (lunchtime and between-match fun extras - for those that missed it last year, we played human foosball on the field, and even had our MC and announcer joining the fray!)
Food options, including pre-order options
Rules Modifications (if any)

And of course I'm excited to see 1503 come to our little event!

1551 will be there, too! (I just got off my duff and registered...)

The rookie team from Honeoye would like to compete. We're looking for a practice robot (with driver's station) for them to use.

(If that's not possible, we'll try to cobble something together with donated mechanisms -- we'd provide the drive base, then see what we could do about a tube manipulator and minibot+deployment.)

Any volunteers? If so, please PM me!

Thanks,

Patrick

Code Red Robotics (639) will not be competing at the Ruckus.

Also, as I understand it, the pre-rookie team from Honeoye (3951, I believe), is to be competing. Though I don't know if they just haven't registered or what.

Well I see there isnt 24 teams so how are they doing eliminations then?

Traditionally, I believe it goes about being that the first seeded alliance gets a by through the first round, meaning there are seven alliance, requiring 21 teams instead of 24. If there are less than 21... I'm not exactly sure what happens. Round Robin?:D

Just wanna thank everyone who helped make this years Rah Cha Cha Ruckus another great event, as always! Volunteers and teams included, since everyone worked together to make this great competition possible!

I'd also like to apologize to anyone's life I made difficult. It was my first time volunteering at an FRC event, so I was still trying to shift from competing to helping :o

I will definitely look into volunteering next year (with a little more experience under my belt this time around)!

Again, thank you to everyone for a great event, and congratulations on another great year! I look forward to seeing some of you again at Finger Lakes!

Definitely! Thanks to all of the volunteers who made today run smoothly!

Second: Team 1126 would like to thank team 191 and 1518 for a fun run through the elimination matches! Playing with you guys was a ton of fun! We had a great time, an awesome strategy, but we caught a few bad breaks. The 3 matches of the semifinals were definitely intense, but we didn't go down with out a fight. We played to the very end, but lost to the eventual winner! Best of luck in the 2012 season!

And to 1551, thanks for letting us borrow your batteries for 3951! They had a great time at thoer first competition even though they didn't get very far. Team 1511 and 1405, 3951 thanks you for help and for a fun (although short-lived) time!

Overall, I had a great time and am happy to call that my last Ruckus as a student!

It was great fun hooking up a rookie team with another team (1126) who was building a second robot for practice, then letting the rookies use our batteries to run in the competition... Keeping eight batteries charged sufficiently for two teams was an exercise in management that made my pit crew half-mad! :D

And on the other hand, I got to re-meet and be interviewed by Libby Kamen, and then later get video of her taking a cream pie to the face, so despite the financial loss of long-term battery life, it was all more than worthwhile in the end. (I bear Libby no ill will, of course... It's just that the look on her face immediately before being pie-smote was *priceless*!)

Edit: We got some nice press, too! http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20111030/NEWS01/110300337

What a great event. We defended our tittle (this year being a more positive force for the allience) and I was able to make up for fliping our bot at last years ruckus by playing deffense on the outstanding teams we faced. I have so much respect for sparkx. You have an awesome robot and your team members are outstanding. You made us work for the win. It was also great to get our new memebers out there driving. I would also like to thank our allience for seeing what our robot had to offer. This is always a fun event and can't wait till we do it all again next year.

Thanks! You guys put up a great fight for 3 intesne yet fun matches and out our strategy and Drive Teams to work! Congratulations on the win!

On another note, I didn't see the pumpkin tubes being used all thay much, despite their ability to be scored by either alliance and add a big bonus.

With minibots not being slashed at all Minibots were worth it over a pumpkin tube in my eyes. Though we didnt deploy minibots at all we thought it was best to defend our alliance members so they could get to their minibot poles on time.

Also can 1511 archive the webcast on their U stream account please. I wanted to send some video to another team.

In my opinion, I think that could be traced to two things. One, maybe some teams didn't know outright what exactly the pumpkin tube was. I don't know, but I'd guess that was a problem for at least one team somewhere at Ruckus.

Secondly, and the one I personally believe in, is they looked two much like regular circles. When coaches are looking for tubes, they're looking for red, white, blue and yellow. When you throw another tube into the mix, with the same body color as another tube, with distinguishing marks that must be near impossible to see for most from across the field... well, I think you get the point. By the last 15 seconds, the field was, most of the time, saturated with tubes. If a team was looking to put up a pumpkin tube, it would have taken a lot of attention to pick one out of the crowd, even before getting and using it.

Pumkin tubes were too hard to see. We originaly were gonna go for them but quickly ditched that as they were too hard to see

we ditched the pumpkin tubes because unless you happen to have a perfect alliance with 2 great minibots and another robot that can score tubes very well, it's not worth it. it was a 12 point swing vs. a (potentially) 30 point minibot...and the one time we tried to hang it after we deployed, we got red-carded for incidentally touching a deploying robot with our spear, so for the immense risk, it wasn't worth it. i just started telling our human players not to throw it out.

i would also like to thank 191 and 1518 for a great time. our alliance was great and it all came down to less than a half of a second there with minibots. congrats to 1559, 610, and 578. those were some of the toughest matches i've ever played, for sure.

it was a pleasure to build the second robot for 3951, and we were plenty glad to help out. it gave them a jump start, and helped us train a lot of our rookies through constructing it! and of course, it was nice to see a little more flashing color on the field :D

as garrick said, that was an awesome last ruckus as a student! if i can help it, i'll be back next year, maybe even as a volunteer! thanks to everyone who made this a great success. and the D&C article about FIRST is great, i always love to see more publicity! thanks to all teams that came, it was a blast and i hope to see many of you at FLR with our new game!

Pumpkin tubes would have made much more on an impact if there were a set number of points, (like 20 for the top row, 15 for the middle and 10 for the bottom), and they weren't color specific. Or if they could be used at anytime during the match instead of at the last minute.

I enjoyed my time at Ruckus, even though I was in that locker room half the time inflating and patching up the tubes. It made for a relaxing day. Congrats to the winners and to Ed for the Igor award, a well deserved recognition.

As I've heard from many, this year had to be best Ruckus, and I'm glad I didn't miss it this year.

At the clean-up / tear-down we found a Duel on the Delaware volunteer shirt.

Anyone know who volunteered at Ruckus and Duel and may have left a shirt behind?

My friend, cyberphil, was at Duel on the Delaware, and I know he had a Duel shirt that day. If it is his (I'll ask him), I can arrange picking it up, but he's back down in Philadelphia area now.

On another note, I'd just like to say that I had a great time volunteering at Ruckus! The competition was awesome, the volunteers were very kind, and all the teams were gracious.

Lastly, I'd be interested in student-mentoring any Rochester-area teams in need of help. I am an RIT student (without a car  ) but I'd be willing to bike up to 10 miles radius from campus, so if you're in the area, and have any interest, feel free to message me, because I'd love to continue to stay involved with FIRST :)

The Ignighters might be the closest team to where you're at. I'd recommend going with RIT FIRST and definitely volunteering for FLR.

As for this years Ruckus all I got to say is

It was a load of fun. We got another "Purple is awesome!" award, and managed to break our claw, arm, and minibot in the last game of quarterfinals -- so I call that a job well done!

On behalf of team 610, I would like to thank everyone who made Ruckus such a great event. This was our first off-season event in 5 years, and we had a great time.

1559 and 578: Thank you so much for being awesome alliance partners. You guys were a lot of fun to play with and we hope to work again with you in the future.

188: It was nice to see another Canadian team come down with us. You guys are fierce competitors and we are looking forward to working with you again this season.

48, 188, and 378: You guys were one outstanding alliance. It was a lot of fun playing you guys in the finals and you gave us a good run for our money.

1126, 191, and 1518: Those were some of our hardest matches that we have ever played. The third match was such a nail biter and we were just able to squeak through. You guys had unreal robots this year and we wish you all the best in the future

Ruckus Volunteers: Thank you all for running an unbelievable event. It was so nice to finally play in an off-season event. It was definitely one of the best-run events that I have ever been to. Canada definitely needs to plan another off-season event in the future. We look forward to coming back again soon and competing with all of you in the future
