Not a single dropped square shown...
Nick this gave me a great idea, teams release a pre-competition video (a six week video or a three week vid what ever your style) but then after competition season (or when ever teams are done iterating) teams relese a final robot video. This would allow us (and that team) to see the iteration process and how much robots will change.

I'm a bit confused by the video, how does it pick tubes up off the ground? ;)

Chris, I know you aren't serious on this question... but don't try to fool other people!

I do have to say... watching your 2 tube auto was as close to magic as you can get. :)

Heh, thanks, but most of the credit for that goes to Pat Fairbank. The drive team just discovered floor loading was possible messing around one day during practice.

I heard that 118 had some magic this year too ;)

Amazing what you guys started out with and then what you ended up with. I am sure that the entire 1503 team didn't expect to win all of your regionals and Newton. Good luck Nick with whatever you plan to do after High School. You showed FRC what a good driver can do with limited equipment.

I wouldn't say we had limited equipment, our robot exceeded our expectations of its capabilities though.
I also have one more year of high school left.

I disagree with this statement. Nick is a friend of mine so I don't mean this as an insult but this was NOT Nick's victory. This was 1503's victory. One person, no matter how skilled, cannot win a match alone. It takes a village to raise a kid and it takes a team to raise a robot.
Congrats to team 1503, you showed FRC what a passionate team can do if they really put their mind to it.

If you go into a season not thinking you are going to win all of your regionals, your division, and the championships should you be competing? This is a competition, and if you aren't going to give it your best, which means believing you can win it all, then should you be competing?
Just something to think about.
Nick I was also curious (and about 99% sure), and not sure why I didn't come look at the bot in St. Louis, but did you do all of the heights pre-programmed?

I'm not necessarily saying that 1503 had limited equipment. They wanted to make the simplest robot that they could possibly make. Which they did. It performed the way that they wanted it too. Nick's driving made a basic machine perform as well if not better than the more advanced robots. Again, great job 1503 on an amazing season and look forward to seeing what you guys can come up with for next year.
That was a pretty cool message you guys got from Deadmau5.
EDIT: I wouldn't mind sitting on pit bleachers for him, FIRST! *hint hint*

Not to take anything away from the already proven 1503 bot, but 179 (http://youtu.be/SBUioZsYIus) might argue they built a simpler robot that had the same functionality.

I'd argue that they were the same, if you wanted to get into nitty gritty details. Both we're single joint arms with claws on a base. Yes, our claws were different but still very much the same. They had small little "fingers" on servo motors that pinched the tube in place.

Congrats 1503!
Great video too :P
I wish we had the chance to be on the same alliance in Pittsburgh, but we sure had a great time beating you in the second last qualifying match! Hope to see us driving together in one match next year :)
Also the claw design was different then most, however it was designed specifically for human player pick up, not floor pick up. Our claw deign was pretty different then most too :P (but we got the industrial design award for it)
And how is DeadMau5 related to your team? was he on it before, sponsor it, or just know him somehow??

This is not something I knew. I thought the tube was a "press-fit" into the 179 claw. Thanks for clearing that up.

Joel Zimmerman (Deadmau5) graduated from our highschool, some of our teachers know him, one of our parents know his mother, my neighbor's daugther knows him, etc.
For 39 million people living in Canada, people sure know eachother.

Nick, I'm not sure if your population numbers include all the American members of your fan club, but Canada's population is closer to 34 million. ;)

Well done on an awesome 2011 season. Team 1503 did a fine job. I also was happy to see it was one of the three robots featured in the ABC I.am.First Science is Rock and Roll commercial on television. That must have made you proud.
