Your current sheetmetal enclosure in your current design can be replaced with more tubing. You'd probably be using the same amount of material, and right now it doesn't seem like the actual sheetmetal parts you have are serving much of a purpose. A chassis such as the one staplemonx posted is making use of the sheetmetal in a structural manner, not as an enclosure such as your design.
