Cool! It reminds me a lot of my team's (2338) tube grabbing mechanism. What is the purpose of the spring though?

The springs are there so the tube doesn't fall back down the arm.
Last time we used solid pieces of metal and those were promptly broken off in competition, so we got some springs since they give us some flex.
