SolidWorks bug or PEBKEC error?

I just installed one of our team's copies of SolidWorks 2011 to learn on. I've been formally trained on CATIA (Another Dassault Systemes product), and the basics are pretty similar. However, I was working through the first tutorial that they have and I'm wondering if this is some sort of bug or if it's just user error (probably the case :yikes: ). I got to the point of viewing a part and a drawing at the same time, and the tutorial points out that if you make changes to the part, the drawing will update when you click on it. However, I've noticed something odd. It only updates every OTHER time I update the part. This is probably an odd description, so I recorded and uploaded a video of the behavior to YouTube (it may still be processing, so sorry if you come into this thread within the first 5 minutes or so and it doesn't work for you. I'm uploading it as I type.).

I think if you have a maintenance licence you can access the knowledge base (to confirm that it's not an intended behaviour), and then file a bug report. I'm not sure if this can be done with a free licence.

But before you do that, try to find out if it's reproducible on another computer.

By default, SolidWorks installs for 1st angle projection - what most of the world uses, except for North America. So your drawing template views will look backwards if you did not select 3rd angle projection. You can change this.

Open up a new drawing. Select the red X to Cancel out of Model View
Right click in the graphics window.
Select 3rd Angle Projection. Click OK.
Click File, Save As. Select .drwdot from the save as type drop down.

Now your default drawing template will be at 3rd angle.

If required, you can also go into Options, Document Proporties and Change your Dimensioning standard such as ISO or ANSI and your units such as mm and inches.

With SolidWorks and CATIA background you will have good skills for industry. Marie

I wasn't really concerned with the projections or standards. I was more wondering why the drawing wasn't updating every time.

When you change a feature dimension in the part, you have to rebuild the drawing when you see the light hatch marks on the drawing view. Just the way things work. Marie
