Can someone instruct me to how to convert an assembly into a .step file? Because I have a few assemblies that I would like to post.

A lot of the robots posted have gearboxes, grippers, and other misc. systems. You should link to those in these categories.

I believe that in SolidWorks and AutoDesk Inventor you can go File > Save As and change the output file type to STEP (.stp). I hope this helps and look forward to hearing from you soon!
Matt
I have pictures of just under half the robots that competed in the 2011 season. Would you be interested in these? If so, PM me and we can figure out how to get them all to you.

Agreed--the arm and drivetrain models are incorporated in the full robot model for the 48/3193 submission. Rather than showing "coming soon", simply link to the full model.

I've been meaning to upload our CAD but I don't know if we ever implemented our arm correctly. At the very least I'd like to put up our 2011 drivetrain both here and on 1323's library. 2012 we'll cross when we get to it.
I believe that in SolidWorks and AutoDesk Inventor you can go File > Save As and change the output file type to STEP (.stp).
In Pro/E use File / Save a Copy and change Type to STEP. Before you export, if you change the option "step_appearance_layers_groups" to yes it will preserve most of the part colors. This makes it a bit easier to look at the model.

I have posted the FRC model used in our SolidWorks tutorials. The SolidWorks robotics tutorials teach you the basics, a good frame, mounting motors, wiring, drawings. The model is in SolidWork 2011.
http://blogs.solidworks.com/teacher/2011/12/robot-cad-tutorial-in-solidworks.html
Sometimes it is easier to learn when you can see the the complete assembly and then look how to create sub assemblies. Sub assemblies are key to good robot design. Hardware folders are great to keep all your fasteners together and suppress when they are not required.
If you need SolidWorks software sponsorship, please go to www.solidworks.com/SponsoredDesignContest. Marie

Great site, but I have one suggestion. You need to do something to make it rank higher in Google when you search something such as "FIRST CAD designs" or "FIRST Robot CAD models"
I could not remember the name of the site/URL today and I had a heck of a time finding it.

sandrag,
Great idea! I will work on it this week as the season starts! Thanks for the suggestion!
Any other teams joining the FRC Designs!?

In the next few days I will really try to bug 103 to upload their CAD's. I believe we still have every robot on file since 2007. They are by no means 100% representations of the final robot, but they should serve well on this extremely useful site!

We're starting CAD this year, so every component will go to FRC-Designs.com!
Also, Thanks for putting us on the list again! We were getting worried we disappeared! :p

I found two old CAD's that might be useful to others. They are not 100% final because they were back up files I found, but close enough.
FRC 1251 , 2008 Robot and 2010 Robot.
I lost all other years including 2011 due to hard drive failure.
I have the two step files ready to go... but not very good pictures of the robots. I will have to look for some.
