One way to make sure that your filing crew does a good job is to remind them that their final check is to do this all over the robot, and the entire group will be held liable for any cuts suffered.

The right of passage on 384 seemed pretty simple (kiss the robot), until the cRIO lit up and the motors started spinning...

This was the first iteration of Lisa from Weird Science. Just remember the tagline, "If you can't get a date, make one!"

It's a classic scene from "A Build Season Story". Triple-dog-dared by the mentors to kiss the robot, these students ended up stuck and miserable.

Later they asked if they could build a t-shirt cannon. They were told they would shoot their eyes out.

The robot is usually yellow, but, well ... it's blushing.

This isn't one of those northern climate "lick the light pole in the middle of winter" things is it?

Given that the robot had just been brought in from an open trailer in the middle of a frigid winter, the kiss lasted very much longer than anticipated. Eventually all team members were detached from the robot. Several were overheard mumbling "what were we thinking?"

Some teams get more attached to their robot than others.

GaryVoshol
15-11-2011, 09:23
Should that be

Aaaaaawwwww ...

or

Eeewww

Yes, I know I'm repeating myself from the picture's thread. But I thought it was good then, and maybe Billfred will think it's good now.

Student #1:
I'll be right with you. I'm just going to tighten up this last screw.

There, nice and tight and... hey my hair is caught. HELP!

Student #2:
No problem, let me just get in here where I can see.
Oww... my hair is caught too. HEY!

Student #3:
No problem, let me just get in here where I can see.
Oww... my hair is caught too. HEY!

Student #4:
No problem, let me just get in here where I can see.
Oww... my hair is caught too. HEY!

Student #5:
No problem, let me just get in here where I can see.
Oww... my hair is caught too. HEY!

Student #6:
No problem, let me just get in here where I can see.
Oww... my hair is caught too. HEY!

Student #1:
Is there anyone still out there? I can hear the shutter sound on your phone. *whimper*

You kiss a frog? I though you said that kissing 384's robot would bring back prince charming...

Too bad it isn't Frog Force, that would be too ironic.

Student 1: "Hey this frame taste like Strawberries."
Student 2: "This motor taste like Snozberries."
Student 3: "What's a Snozberry?"
Student 2: "I don't kniow but it taste great."
Student 4: "This chain taste like EEEwwwwww, axle grease."

Well as we know, robots are unable to show love, so 384 wanted to teach their robot personally.

PAR_WIG1350

This may look like nothing more than a silly tradition, but the reality is, the robot has become sentient, if they stop, the robot will feel betrayed. I imagine the end result would be something like Portal 2, but without all the awesomeness.

Student, to robot: "Awww, you have a boo-boo? Let me kiss it to make it bette- Oh, you have a lot of boo-boos?"

*motions and calls over to team* "Hey guys, the robot needs to be healed for the next match; help me out!"

The major downside to building an all-Cheetos robot is that it never lasts until Competition.

How exactly do the Cheesy Poofs do it year after year?

Six rookies on the team, but one of them isn't buying the tradition of robot-kissing as explained by the veterans. To conceal his doubt, he's kissing his elbow instead.
