View Full Version : CD Christmas Cards 2011
Starting a little late this year (whoops!), but it's time to sign up for CD Christmas Cards!
For those unfamiliar, basically a group of CDites exchange physical addresses and send each other Christmas (or Hannukah, or Kwanzaa, or Festivus, or Kickoff, or Have a Nice Day) cards.
A book of stamps is currently: $8.80 USD (Same price as last year!)
Since it takes two stamps to mail to Canada, Canadians please make sure to sign up for 2 spots.
We'll limit this, as in past years, to 40 sign-ups, so this way no one is spending more than $18 in stamps (which is two books of stamps, unless you're Canadian – if all sign-ups are to America, your cost would max out at around $34)
Spread the word! Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your robot. It’s a lot of fun when a lot of people sign up! Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, you are welcome to participate!
The deadline is going to be Friday, December 2, 2011. This means that you must have PM'd me your address before 11:59pm on 12/2. I will send out a reminder PM on 11/30 if you have signed up but have not sent me your address, but it will make both of our lives easier if you just send it as soon as you sign up.
Obviously, we can't track you down and force you to send cards--but try to avoid being a spoilsport. Don’t forget to send them, and don't put them off until the last minute!
And yes, this means the other folks involved will get a physical address (via PM), so check with the parents as applicable.
So, if you're in for this year, add your name to the list and PM me your address (be sure to include special instructions if you're a college student who will be leaving campus and you want your cards to be sent to a different address after certain date).
To see who was in on the fun last time check out 2010 thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87616) (and also 2008 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69946), 2007 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59666), 2006 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49943), 2005 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40423), 2004 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31281))
Note: If anyone plans on sending out festivus poles, or other holiday objects, this year (coughBillfredcough), make sure that the packaging will withstand the mailing process.

The CD Christmas Card exchange is a lot of fun. (I think I was one of the very few people to have Billfred's festivus pole arrive safely in the mail.)
Thank you for starting the tradition for 2011, Kara. You rock!

Who wouldn't? ;)
I currently have 7/11 addresses. To the four of you who haven't sent them in...I'd like them ;)
For those who haven't signed up yet, protip: make the post, then PM me your address right away. You WILL forget and I will have to bug you for the address, and that's not fun for either of us.

Every year the people participating in CD Christmas Cards send holiday cards out to each one of the other people on the list. Essentially, you end up with 20-30 cards from some of the most awesome people in the CD community that you can brag to your robotics friends about. :p
Alright, I'm PMing the addresses out tonight. The final list is:
1. Kara Bakowski
2. Vic Burg
3. Rick Sisk
4. Scott Miller

You should get your cards out as soon as possible. Don't wait until the last minute - time flies!
If there is anybody who PMed their address but isn't on the above list, please let me know ASAP! Same goes if there is something wrong with your address.

Andrul, I didn't receive an address from you, so I had to take you off the list. Try again next year!
Note: Jim Wilks lives in Canada. His card will need a total of $0.80 USD in stamps. Your card shouldn't be more than 1oz, but if it is, you will need to calculate the postage for it.
Thank you all for signing up, and happy sending!

I thought it was, but there was no way for me to be sure since it was pretty convincing :P
I made a Google Doc with all the addresses. (GD pulls up better on my phone when compared to CD.) If anyone would like access, send me a PM and I'll give you the link.
Just a reminder that your cards should be going out soon! If you haven't started at all, you should do that today*.
*unless you're like me and have final exams to study for. School first!
My cards went out in the mail this morning! Sadly, they're not as spiffy as I would have liked because I'm still not home. On the bright side, everyone avoided a sea of glitter and/or confetti. :D
Also, if you haven't addressed your cards yet, please go ahead and send mine to my Michigan address. That way I can have a sea of cards waiting for me when I get home. =)

I just put mine in the mailbox of the Five Points post office like five minutes ago. This year's cards seem about 2,815 times more likely to arrive at their destination, as they are free of metal pokey things. :)
They are also about 1,293 times* more fun than last year's intended cards from me, assuming you and I share a similar definition of "fun".
*Katie's card is an exception; hers is 3,928 times more fun. I made sure of it. :D
And once again, Billfred's card arrives in pieces ;)

Hey, once you go to Festivus poles you can't just go to CVS and be done with it!
(Took me at least an hour in Kinko's to get them right...then, of course, addressing and stamping and then actually going to CVS to get more stamps...)

I can neither confirm nor deny that the arrival-in-pieces quotient was influenced by the recipient's caption contest score over time, with particular regard to the elusive negative scores.

I've received...four? Five? Certainly not all, but more than three for sure.
I received another 3 today, for a total of 6. I got Rick's today, which is surprising - usually it takes more than two days for stuff to get here from the west coast!
I...uhhh...photocopied my cards today. They'll be dropped in the mailbox tomorrow, so expect them around New Year's.
(and yes, there is irony in the fact that I've reminded everyone to send out cards, yet mine are currently sitting in a pile in my room...whoops.)
