I see they released the simulator... yay...
too bad you have to register as a team to get it, meaning people w/o official team affiliation can't acess it :(
any suggestions?

Yeah, we tried to verify our team and it brought us to a white page that says, "Oswego"
I'm confused as to how this works as well. It didn't open a download program window or anything...

Same result for me (blank page with city name). I was able to download the application by using a personal (non-team) account, but I can't play since it doesn't recognize the account I used as a team account.

I was able to register with a team I know I'm set in TIMS as a mentor; I'm not sure but it seems that they might be cross-checking the info you enter against TIMS or something. I was able to get to the download; no word on installing it yet (and the fact that I only got a ~400k file is not encouraging).

I think you're right. I tried it again with a mentor's name, no problems.
EDIT: Now it insists I've already logged on to another computer and refuses to let my play. It also tends to crash every time you click off of the window.

That executable is just a downloader. It will download the actuall program and install it. It's 153MB in size.

Same problem here. Even made sure that we had logged out of the website.

For now, by design the only way to download Catalyst is with a team affiliation. And with the log in problem, if you are not logged in to another computer, after closing give it time to reset. It is on a counter to make sure you are not logged in twice.

ok, noted.
Is there a way to keep it from crashing and have it open instead?
Can someone upload a exe file if they download it? It would be really appreciated.
Thanks
after trying to log in with the correct team affiliation, the website brings me to a white page saying "404 Error File Not Found" on a blue host page
I downloaded it and try to run the program, but now it says I am not using the correct password when i launch the program. I have even changed the password to make sure i didnt have an error in it.

Doesn't support Canadian teams on the registration page, I'm going to have to e-mail them.
Also, does the simulator allow for importing models for robots from other programs?

The game is supported by Windows XP SP2, Vista, Windows 7
It also tends to crash every time you click off of the window.
Are you using dual monitors? If so, disable one in your control panel settings.

Whatever your team put into TIMS for the abbreviation for the Canadian provinces is what you put in to that slot. If you continue to have issues, you can email us your team number, city, and state/province using the support on our website and we can help you log in.
To the second part, no. This feature is not supported

I'm getting the error "You are already logged into another computer. Please log out of that computer and try again." I've been having this problem for over a half hour.
My mentor gave me the download Ill upload it later tonight for others to use.....
Are you using Team**** as your username?
Yes I am using the correct username. The program doesnt allow for capitals which was required of the password and username during setup.

I just got it figured out. You can not use the caps lock, you must use shift when entering your login ingo or else it doesnt work correctly.

We recommend that you do not do this. You will have to register with our website (dbsgames.net). Therefore, uploading the exe file will allow for install, but each team must have individual log in information in order to play simultaneously.

Thanks for the reply. No dual monitor setup here, but specs if they help:
Windows 7 Pro 64
3.4 GHz i7-2600K
8GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 480
And I continue to get the "already logged in" error. The one time it did not give me this error, the application crashed when logging in, then resumed giving me the "already logged in" message. There were some details about its crash, but I neglected to write them down. I'll try and do that if it comes up again.
As for the crash when clicking off - it only happens when I have switched to another window and been there for some time. If I click out and then immediately click back in (<15 seconds), it does not crash.
EDIT: more info on the crash, not sure if it helps at all...

It does. We use the information teams provided in the TIMS database. Most Israeli teams put either 'nothern', 'southern', or 'central' as their state. If you are still having issues please email us your team number, city, and state/province/region or equivalence to support@dbsgames.net and we will help you register.

The only information we verify is the team number, city, and state (or equivalent). Students or Mentors can create the account. Also, you can download the game to as many computers as you would like. However, you will only be able to play with your team's account on one computer at a time.
We have registered our account, we have set everything up, but we cannot log in. It gives us a server connection error.
"Could not connect to server. Check internet connection or try again later."
I am connected to the internet (as i am posting this from the same computer).
Any ideas?

You may need to set your firewall to allow Catalyst 2012 to connect to the internet. You can also try making sure your antivirus software is not blocking the game. Let us know if this works for you.

Thanks!
The game supports six players. Four Xbox 360 controllers and 2 on the same keyboard.
To add Controller players plug in your Xbox 360 controllers and press "A" to log in the new player.
If you want to play with two players on the same keyboard, when logging in with the keyboard click the check box for 2 players.(If your already logged in single player on keyboard. Log out and log back in with the 2 player check box checked.)

Sorry to double post, but this is on a completely separate subject.
I logged into our account on the program, and then the program crashed. It remained logged in. How can I log off the program to refresh the session?
Any idea why it keeps telling me the game stopped working?

Due to legal reasons, we are only allowed to release one copy of the game per team. This may change as the season continues.
Also, we have a system in place that will log you out after just a few minutes if the game exits unexpectedly. Try logging in again soon.

If I may ask, what legal reasons? 5th Gear has done a simulation for several years, and that wasn't one copy per team. I have attempted a simulation for the last two years as well.
I'm currently installing this on another computer to see if it works.
EDIT: No good on second install, either. It's not as good as the first desktop I tried it on, but specs are:
Windows 7 Home Premium 32
3 GHz Pentium 4 HT
2.25 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT

... but why bother?
Because it allows you to see the game and make quick changes to a robot concept without wasting much time to see what may make sense. I wouldn't trust it with becoming any sort of method for robot design, but it can be an aid in looking at game play and different capabilities. I'm a little concerned it may make some people tunnel visioned in terms of ideas though...

Sorry for the inconveniences it caused. This was never an issue on any of the systems we tested on before release. We will look into the issue and will try to fix it in a future update. For now, our best suggestion is simply to not click outside of the windowed screen. :o
Does anyone know if there is any way to play with more than one person, say on another computer so that we can have the full 6 players in a game. Also, is there a way to do that without having to play against another team, in case that resource is not available. One other thing, is there joystick support?

There is no network support in "Catalyst 2012 Team Edition".
You can have a full 6 player,3 on 3 on a single computer.
The way to do that is also in the link above.

I really think this is a valuable tool, but there are issues that are just making it not quite worth it.
1)Our school district tends to have a very strict proxy that doesn't like programs connecting to the internet (besides web-browsers). Is there any way to set it to connect with certain proxy settings (the way you can with Netbeans for example)? It would be virtually impossible to have an exception made for Catalyst because AFAIK the network admin is quite busy (by the time we got him to do anything, it would probably be 2+ weeks into the season and past the point where it is very useful).
2)I tried taking it home and logging in there before bringing my laptop back to school, but I was logged out upon arrival. Why is there a need for such airtight DRM? Surely if I have verified my identify I shouldn't need a constant connection (I can't see why anybody NOT on a FIRST team (maybe some alumni) who would want to use Catalyst.
3)Also I want to report that the same bug of crashing after alt-tabbing for ~7+ seconds is happening to us on 2+ computers (both win7, and single monitor).
4)I encountered another bug last night where if I just was logged in with a 360 controller, and tried heading to the match lobby, it immediately exits back onto the menu (E.G. I mash a to get into the lobby but it wont go to the lobby). I had to log my keyboard in as a guest and go to the lobby that way. I have not tried to replicate this as I woke up having forgotten the password, and now I am at the school unable to log in.
5)A final graphical bug I encountered was when I tipped my robot over the graphics were strange. I can't replicate it for the same reason as #4 and I do not remember my specific parts. It would also be nice if my robot was automatically rerighted when tipped over (I was playing in practice with fouls off, so maybe with fouls on it works).
It is a cool piece of software, but to me it just feels a bit rushed without optional features that would be nice (camera control during the game?).

We had the same problem, and checked if our firewall was interfering, we discovered that it was not. IF perhaps we missed something, what ports and properties do we need to use for it to work?

This sounds awesome. However, I can't install it. The setup.exe does nothing. No progress on the progress bar.'
EDIT: It appears the above issue may be a problem with insufficient privileges on the user account, or some other school computer limitation.
To be brutally honest, the distribution and licensing of this product is rather terrible. However, I am grateful for all the work that went into it, if I can ever use it....

The game is quite neat. It definitely has some merit as a simulator, though you have to take something with a grain of salt (like the high accuracy from quite a distance away).
In addition, it's free. Can't complain about that. I remember 5th gear from last year - essentially unplayable.
Obviously there are some issues that could be improved.
1. Internet access should absolutely not be required to play or login.
2. One copy for a team of 40 or 50+ kids is odd problematic. I'm guessing the game engine that was used had a license restriction set on it, and that they can't go beyond it (hence 1 per team).
3. Network play would be nice.
Thanks for the great program guys. Nice work!

Taking like over 20 minutes here? What is up with this? the program crashed as i was editing our robot and then its gone. Says im logged in already. Im sure this is an easy fix. Implement a way for the server to know that the client has disconnected this way no more of this dumb hassle. Very frustrated with this program. If i were to rate it on a scale of 10, i would say 6/10. -4 for unreliablity. PC Specs (in case you want):
Core i7 2600K
16GB RAM
Radeon 6850 x 4
...thats pretty much all that matters.
EDIT: It's been 40 minutes and still the same error. The original computer that had the game is turned totally off and am trying this on a new machine yet still the same error. (And don't doubt the specs...thats not it).

Are you playing with two players on the keyboard? If so, the current format does not allow for two simultaneous keyboard players to edit robots. A stand alone keyboard player, or a keyboard and one controller will be able to edit individual robots.

You could try disabling the filter while the game instals or try installing while on a different network. As you know, we do not expect for Macs to be able to run the game. However if you are successful at installing and running the game, please let us know what you used and how you did it so that we can offer this information to other Mac users who wish to play the game.
Is there a way to add joystick support? It would be nice to start a little bit of driver practice ahead of time and we aren't going to use xbox 360 controllers to drive our robot.

Right now, the only controller that the game supports is the Xbox 360 controller. Adding more support for other controllers is something we would like to change in the future so that teams can use the joysticks that come in the KOP.

Darn! Unfortunately, I don't have access to the webfilter here at work, and I can't really take the computer home with me :(
I'll definitely let you know if I get it working on my mac, but don't hold your breath :p There are a lot of tools out there that try to emulate parts of Windows in order to allow you to run Windows programs on a Mac, its possible one of them will work...

I was on, ran through one game, and then the system wouldn't respond, so did a forced close. Now it will not let me login again, saying another computer is logged in. Unless someone on the team logged-in in the minute between closing it and trying to re-login, it still thinks my computer is logged in. I've been retrying for about 15 minutes so far. What is the time-out period to auto log off if not using the system?

My team uses it, but a downturn is that only one person per registered log in can use it at a time. It was a great program though, very helpfull.
The whole team can download the game and install it if they would like. However, only one computer can log into the game at a time.
I'm not sure I understand, could you clarify this please? Can the team download multiple times with one account, or can I as a student create an account and download it? Or perhaps what I mean is, does the team share the username and password or can everyone have their own log in?
When it asks about team contact, does that mean my name, or do I input the name of the team Coach?
Thank you.

Name doesn't really matter, all it's checking is team number and location. If those don't match it won't let you register.
And it can be downloaded on as many computers as you want, but with just one account per team. You cannot make more than one account per team, nor can you use the same account on two computers at the same time to my understanding (that doesn't matter too much as there's no networked multiplayer).
Out of curiosity, what engine are you using to run this? I'd assume XNA?
I'm working on my own simulator as I do everywhere and will be releasing a preview (that does not require you to register) shortly, using a different engine.
Also, the game still crashes after your "fix." What is happening is that I can download and install it, and it will run fine. If I click out and back into the window, it will crash. That's not the main issue.
If I try to log in, it crashes, without fail. I appreciate you guys putting time into this, but it's got some major compatibility issues. I've seen it work, and I don't know why it won't work for me. I don't have two monitors running. What do you suggest?

As the developers of Catalyst 2012, we are working hard to improve and update our game.
Here is the link to our blog for more information:

We've been having an issue for the last few days where it says that we are logged in on another computer. I have tried changing the password for the account but still it says we are logged in somewhere else.
