When we tried to install the Windriver C++ it said that it needed a VAC, key, for it to work. Where can we find this key?

You can find the activation file for WindRiver on the installation CD, and the file is FirstRobotics_2012_install.txt.
Check out this link for more information (http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default/files/uploadedFiles/Robotics_Programs/FRC/Game_and_Season__Info/2012_Assets/Getting%20Started%20with%20the%202012%20FRC%20Cont rol%20System_2.pdf).
Good Luck!

One more question, the files for FRC specifically did not install with it. The order we installed is first disc, second disc, applied update. Thanks for the help!
You need to do the updates too:
http://firstforge.wpi.edu/sf/frs/do/listReleases/projects.wpilib/frs.2012_update_for_c
After that, you should see the samples and the First menu context up top.
