Segway for Sale - raffle prize at first ever SegwayFEST!
Description:
Take home a piece of History from the Championship !!
It was the Saturday evening of the first ever SegwayFEST (August 30, 2003) in one of the banquet rooms at the convention center across from McCormick Place in Chicago. Dessert had been served and Dean was finishing his speech to the enthusiastic crowd. As usual he drove home his plug for FIRST ... then he reached into the fishbowl and pulled out a raffle ticket. I had been telling people all day that I was going to win the raffle - that's the only reason I was there, of course ... I even told my co-workers before I headed north that I was going to Chicago to win a Segway. Did I really believe it ??? not sure ... Will my Wife ever know how many raffle tickets I bought ?? NO WAY!!! ... Then Dean started reading off the numbers as I followed the sequence on the edge of my ticket. I was in shock for a second or two, but then jumped up and yelled YES!! I floated to the front of the room, gave Dean a hug and thanked him, then grabbed the microphone and said a few words, including something stupid about now not having to get divorced when I bought my Segway. That was an evening I will never forget. Except maybe for the drive home to Indianapolis ... I'm not sure if my wheels even touched the ground. It took at least a couple of days to wipe the stupid grin off my face ...
For the first couple of years I was on my Segway every day. I would take it to work and just glide around the parking lot at lunch - offering demos to my co-workers at every opportunity. In fact, when the trainer showed up to give me my "orientation" I already knew more than he did, and was very comfortable maneuvering my ride. Well it's been over 5 years now, and probably a couple thousand demos later. My Segway now sits in my garage most of the time (plugged in to keep the batteries charged). Occasionally I'll still hop on to run an errand, and it does go with me to many of the FIRST events I attend. BUT ... I think its time for a change – and besides, I’ve got a wedding to pay for in a couple of months.
I've been told by a couple of dealers that my i167 is worth nearly $2000 just for parts alone - so I've decided to sell it, and here's the deal ... I don't want to play any negotiating games as I do have a bit of an emotional tie to this machine ... I will sell it for $2000 (as-is - NO warranty, implied or otherwise). It is in good shape, with normal "bumps and bruises". Software is upgraded to the latest version (V14.2). I have tested the battery range over the past couple of weeks and I am consistently getting 9+ miles per charge (on the original NiMH batteries) while gliding at nearly max speed the entire time. No significant customization. All original - fenders and handlebar have been replaced with OEM parts - the kickstand is broken and the bottom front nameplate missing. I will bring it to Atlanta to use for the Championship weekend, then let the new owner take it home - thus eliminating any shipping costs/concerns. Photos are available in CD-media (search “Segway for Sale” – use quotes). PM or email me if you are interested and have additional questions (serious inquiries only please).
