Open Chassis Qs?

Hey guys i have tried serching the forums all ready but my team is thinking of an open end chassis. We know that there must be 8" of bumpers on each end around the corners. Our robot is 27 in wide so that leaves 11" gap. Just wanted to make sure there is no rule about having and open spot in the chassis. I have gone through the rules and it looks like its good to go just want to make sure.

We haven't found any rule prohibiting it, so we plan on having a 20" open side on our "wide" robot.

We're going wide, with an opening, too. Just make sure you don't have any breakable bits near that opening unprotected.

As an extension of that, do you need to put your team number on the open side if there's only 8" on each side? I saw in the manual that the number had to be in the center.

Re: Open Chassis Qs?

The manual does not say the number needs to be centered on the bumper.

Quote:

[R35]

Teams shall display their team number on the Bumpers in four locations at approximately 90° intervals around the perimeter of the Robot. The numerals must be at least 4 in. high, at least ¾ in. in stroke width, and be either white in color or outlined in white. Team numbers must be clearly visible from a distance of not less than 100 ft, so that judges, referees, and announcers can easily identify competing Robots.
