Movin' on Out?

Does anyone know if there are teams, from last year, that will not be attending the New England regional because of the location (Meadows Music Theater)? I heard rumors that teams were not going to attend this regional due to, you name it; poor visibility, lack of ability to move around in the pits, and outrageous food prices. As you might have guessed i am not happy with the location either. However, I would hate to think that location would cause the demise of the oldest regional in this competition. There has to be a happy median between sponsorship and the overall quality of a truly great experience. There has to be somewhere eles to hold the competition where both parties can be satisfied.
Just wondering!!!

Sincerely,
Concered for the experience

Tom,

Team 95 has changed our (one) Regional registration from Hartford to Rutgers. We were reluctant to do so, and the drive will be 3 to 4 times as long for us, but the visibility of the playing field from the spectator seating was so poor for the nature of the event that the team members from last year voted unanimously for the other venue. The pits in Hartford seemed pretty tight and crazy also, but that's one of those things that we take as it comes. As for food prices and no tee shirt concessions, etc., that wasn't a factor for us either.

We competed in Manchester in '97 and '98, and to me that experience epitomizes FIRST. We hope that the NE Regional can find a new home with stadium seating for 2001, as we feel that's key to EVERYONE sharing in the excitement of the games.

Hey Dodd,

Glad to hear you are coming to Rutgers!

It will give us a chance to meet in the Finals or perhaps even partner up to win it all together (if FIRST has alliances in '00).

Looking forward to admiring another your awesome machines.

Either one would just make my '00!

We're thinking about a mechanism to yank the carpet out from under the opponent and roll them up in it this year (no damage, of course). What do you think?

That would be veerrry impressive.

I'll definitely remember one of last year's most impressive moments: It was when your team tipped over the puck at Rumble with two of your extended opponents on it. Team 95's move was definitely the talk of the Competition.

We were unloading our machine from the next field, and I heard an incredible noise... everyone's jaw hitting the floor after you pulled off your awesome feat.

I can't wait to see what you come up with next year!

That was definitely one of the most satisfying moments in my mental scrapbook of 3 years of FIRST. We had a perfect comeuppance at River Rage, tho'. When we lifted the puck with the Aztechs (sp ok?) on it, they lowered their climbing wheel set at the downhill end of the machine to exactly null out our tilt angle, and lifted their load up straight as an arrow for the tripler/tripler. Can't fool a fooler, I guess. I love the ying and yang of these games. Hats off to the Aztechs for a well-deserved Play of the Day at River Rage. (I hope I got this all right. I was out of the country and only saw photos of their great feat and hearsay on the awards.)

Joe and Dodd,

This will be my teams 4th year going to Jersey(2nd place in '97, 2nd in 98, 8th in 99) and it is a great venue to have a competition there is no bad seats. Hopefully TJē will be in the finals too if we have alliances again which I think they will. Both you guys had great robots last year. And Dodd if you do figure out how to roll up carpet I definately want you on my team. And Joe, I know you guys always come up with a great robot. Good luck and see you guys in Jersey.

Dodd,
I definately agree that the good old Mancester regionals were by far the greatest. My team has competed there since 92 and i was in attendance in 94,95,96,97,98. You can't beat the atmosphere of New Hampshire college.

I was on the same team as Tom these past years, and loved attending the regional in NH.. this year, on my new team, we're going to the NJ. Although it's not a change for them..it's a change for me and on I'm looking forward to actually. Last year, Meadows just wasn't it- it didn't give that homey, kinda close-knit feel.. like Dodd said the NH comp 'epitomizes FIRST' and I'm definitely hoping to find that feeling again this year in NJ..everyone come visit me on Team 246! I'll be wearing red and white instead of the typical green and gold!
