I agree with this statement. It is a good concept, but should be kept out of threads to avoid 'cluttering'.

Yes. It would be amazing for everyone.

No, I don't want to see threads of 2000 teams times 20+ users each. There is a place in the profile to place a team number, that is how I identify people.

I guess the "detractors" missed the point of this exercise.

It wasn't a fun way to say HI to all the team members, it was a means to verify that all the members of the team obtain Chief Delphi Accounts, and know how to post responses to messages.

Without having everyone on the team do it at least once per year, how would YOU verify that everyone knows how to use this valuable resource.

"That's a bad idea" posts seem more like clutter to me.

Phil.

So I guess this post has upset some users. However, there are other things on ChiefDelphi that also "clutter" the forums, for instance, the "Who am I" posts, isnt there a place you can upload your photo on your profile as well?

My personal opinion is this, we are trying to get our students to learn how to use ChiefDelphi to its fullest extent, because we as mentors believe this is a very powerful tool, and if you are not using it, or don't know how to use it, you are missing out on alot of useful information. Also, if you see the topic and it doesn't interest you then dont click the link!!!! I personally browse the subjects, pick the ones that pique my interest and view only those!!!:ahh:

Getting students to use Chiefdelphi and use it correctly is always a difficult thing. Far too often I see students (and sometimes mentors) on here that don’t understand the "manors" of forum use. It can also be difficult to distinguish useful information from garbage at times. With that said the first step of turning a student into a useful forum member is getting them on the forum. Often this is the hardest step. The next step is getting them to come back after that first login. From the looks of it you have the first step at least partly done so well done. Hopefully they all continue to visit the site and turn into productive members of the Chiefdelphi community.

No, I fully understand the point of the exercise. You want to make sure that everyone on team 1629 has a CD account.

It isn't very difficult at all to click "post reply", type a message, and then click "submit reply".

I completely agree with this statement. It is an extremely helpful tool for anyone involved in FRC. However, please keep it out of the threads.

This is not my point. What I am trying to say is that if all 2000+ teams did this, then there would be no way to find any other thread. The entire portal would be completely littered with threads like this.

I agree that CD is a very valuable resource in the FIRST community, and have been around it for quite some time. I am not saying that getting your team involved on CD is a bad thing, actually I wish all teams would become involved in the discussion. However, I do think that doing a 'role call' is a bit unnecessary. You could have them send you a PM or show you a thread they posted in, when they are at meetings.

Either way, I am glad that there some new members of the community!

Re: Team 1629 Roll Call

If the point of the exercise was to see who was on CD and who could use CD, then the team members should learn how to send private messages.

I also note that for most of the students that have posted here, it's their only post and their only time on CD. They haven't learned to use it, because they're not using it.

I think this thread has run it's course. Closing. If another moderator disagrees, it can be reopened.
