Programming the kinect with java.
 
This is our second year in the FRC but first year with Java and I am wondering how one would program the kinect for this year's competition.

Take a look at the documentation for the classes "Kinect" and "KinectStick". The classes are pretty straight forward, and KinectStick actually implements the GenericHID interface, so it can literally be passed to things like RobotDrive in place of a joystick. There's a fairly simple example project that comes with the NetBeans plugins called KinectStickExample that you might want to take a look at. IIRC, it has a couple simple drive commands in there as examples. You can also check out http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default...o r%20FRC.pdf for some platform-independent information on the topic.
