We did the Three Bot Stack two times. We didn't need to do it more than that, but we could have.
In the third match of the Quarter-Finals Team 4028 fell slowly off of our Flight deck and it took a piece of paper to determine if we were going on to the Semi-Finals.

Sounds like an exciting competition for all at the Boilermaker Regional!!
I am curious if 1501 bot with their "piggyback" game strategy worked for them in elimination rounds? Our team has the same concept idea but didn't attempt it at West Michigan Competition. It wasn't an ideal bot combination to try for it.
But we, as an alliance did win and played a very tough alliance that did succeed in a 3-bot balance (teams 1918, 85, and 910) in 2 out of the 3 final matches. These were the only two 3-bot balances at West Michigan and the crowded loved it!!!:)

Yes, we had an ideal alliance for the "piggybacking" strategy (although we prefer to call it stacking.:) ), and it carried us all the way to a regional win. We attempt the stacking when we needed to (especially when the other alliances we were facing were trying for the tripe balancing).

I'm happy that you guys did well at West Michigan without the "piggybacking," though. From the day the build season ended and all the reveal videos came out, you were immediately a team to watch for me, because we had similar robots. I hope you all and 701 can win a regional with "piggybacking," because certainly did.:D

I think I can speak for everyone on 1732 when I say that Boilermaker was a blast. It was likely the most well run event, I've every attended. All the volunteers and other teams were simply the nicest people I've interacted at a FIRST event. I don't believe there were any field delays. The team social and awards ceremony were some of the best, also. Just a great event. I hope we can make it back in the future.

Thanks to 4272 for picking us and 292 for rounding out the alliance. While I was impressed with 4272's rookie robot, I'm still amazed at their grasp of strategy. A rookie team that picks two teams to successfully pull off a ball starvation, triple balance alliance that knocks off a significantly stronger #1 alliance is so impressive. I wish we could have gone further, but we literally lost by inches on the triple balance attempt.

Congrats to 1756, 1501 and 4028 on the victory. I have to admit I was a little skeptical of your chances at getting a triple balance after watching it on the practice field, but you proved me wrong and certainly deserve your win. When it mattered the most, you all executed the triple balance the best. For a team that's been building some of the most beautiful and competitive robots for years, its about time 1501 got a blue banner.

Thanks for all the congratulations on our RCA. I'm still amazed we won!

4028 I'll be honest. I was a little reluctant about being able to complete the triple balance when 1756 picked you guys with the 2nd pick. Every single doubt I had disappeared when we completed the first stacking triple balance, and I was never more happier to be wrong. You guys have incredibly smart drivers, and I remember this well, because after we added a little help and practice (both before and during eliminations) to get onto our robot, you guys nailed each one perfectly. Your enthusiasm of cheering for all the teams (especially our alliance) was extremely infectious, and spread to the 1756 and 1501 crowd. We'll see you guys in St. Louis! (Jimmy, you better be proud of this team, because I am).

I can understand where you were coming from when saying you were reluctant, we weren't the best looking bot by far with a pretty low scoring percentage and not the best seed. Our entire team still cannot believe we won. Coming in we weren't expecting to even get into the elimination rounds, and didn't think of the possibility of winning. I mean seriously we are a rookie team with a robot made out of mostly PVC and plywood :). We were just trying to do the best with what we had. Thanks so much to 1756 for giving us a shot, and for 1501 with the brilliant triple balance strategy. We are just glad we were able to make a meaningful contribution to our alliance. You both had amazing scoring robots, we just wanted to do our part to help.

Once again thanks to all teams for an amazing regional experience! As a senior I am disappointed that I won't have a chance to compete in another season, but I am so glad I was able to drive for our team this season and help pull off a win. It is surely something I will remember forever.

That was a crazy match. Here's a picture of how close we were to not earning that double balance that gave us the win.

As another member of 4028, thanks again to 1756 and 1501 for allowing us to be a part of their alliance. And thanks to everyone else who made this an amazing first competition for our team.

Here's A picture of one of our triple balances with 1756 almost falling off. The only reason they stayed on is because they were stuck between 1501's and our bumper.

I'd love to get a video from that team.

Here is a video of one of our matches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doBPT...ure=plpp_video

Don't want to de-rail this thread too much, but 67's 2006 robot was the initial inspiration for the shooter design. The high release point makes shooting from the fender easier while the center of gravity is still low (the deflector weighs less than a pound and a half), making balancing easy. For the first time, I think we have a robot that stands out in a crowd. Although we are pleased with our preformance at BMR, we haven't come close to the full potential of the robot.

You guys were great. You were one of three robots on our pick list and only lost out to 868 because they are our friends. You and 868 are going to rock their world next week in Wisconsin. I wish I could be there in person, but I'll have to watch you on webcast.

i am from team 2197, that was a great competition. my FIRST (see what i did there?!?!?) one. that was a lot of fun there, who remembers the video at the opening ceremony going out because of a low battery? priceless.

I saw one team use it. I think it was during the elimination rounds. Can't remember the number though.

From what I have been told, Team 1756 had no second pick and trusted our teammate to pick the second player. And like they say, the rest is history.

I believe 3176 did it successfully.

I don't want to derail this thread either, but it's crazy that someone used our (67's) 2006 robot as an inspiration for a design this year. 2006 is the year and robot that nobody talks about on the HOT Team. I wish you better luck in implementing this design than we did!
