Encoder Recommendation

Hey, our team 3502 is looking for something that could measure a wheel spinning at 1,000 - 2,000 RPM. We were told to look into a high speed encoder but we are having trouble finding the right one. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Re: Encoder Recommendation

Any incremental encoder that gives the appropriate output level should do. The question is: How clean will you be with your encoder? Remember that the little slits in that optical disk can easily be obscured by oils deposited when touching it.

If you are looking for something with a variable number of counts per revolution, look into the CUI AMT102 and AMT103. They are variable count devices, and they are easy to mount.

We have had good results with some of the higher quality shaft encoders from US digital. The S-6 model has an index channel which handles speeds up to 100,000 RPM, however running in this mode disables direction sensing i believe.
