Stop button

Hello -

Last year, we were required to have a stop button wired to our bots. Are we required the same this year?

Thanks.

What stop button are you referring to? The one that is on the driver station? Last year there was the one on the driver station but not on the robot, just the main breaker.

The stop button this year, I believe, is the spacebar on the driver station computer.

For reference F1 is enable and Enter/Return is now disabled.

Re: Stop button

I was talking about the physical button which stopped everything. Guess that answers my question ^^

Re: Stop button

If you are referring to the e-stop button (the USB powered button with a stop sign on it), then your answer is as follows:

Outside of competition, you should have a USB e-stop button connected to your driver station. If, for some reason, you do not have one, you can override the e-stop button by going to the diagnostics tab and double clicking the stop button indicator.

During competition, you will plug in to FMS which will automatically connect an e-stop button that is located at your designated spot.

If you are referring to enable/disable shortcuts, then the above posts are correct.

Ah yes, the e-stop button is what I'm referring to.

Do I have to write extra code within LabView to work with the FMS's e-stop button?

Re: Stop button

Your driver station will automatically work with the FMS a competition, including the e-stop button. So no need for extra coding.

There is no need for a USB e-stop this year outside of competition. The space bar is the e-stop and the enter key is disable.

No, this is not correct. That was last year. This year, the spacebar is estop, f1 is enable, and enter is disable. However, during competition, there will still be an estop button on the table.

You never "had" to have the estop button connected in previous years, so the only question is whether or not it will work to estop the robot. I don't think it will, but you could reprogram it so that it does. (Tt is a USB keyboard with one button. Change that button from the default to space.)

In the small parts bag of the kit of parts there are two red stop stickers that go the the space bar of the laptop you are driving with.

Seconded, this is correct.

Re: Stop button

To be more specific the physical USB e-Stop that came in the Kit of Parts meant for driving the robot outside of the main field has been entirely removed from the 2012 driver station software. It has been replaced by a virtual e-Stop button designated as the spacebar when the driverstation is active.

Re: Stop button

Sorry about that everyone. We have been having issues with getting the 2012 software installed so I haven't had the opportunity to see the new software in action. I had assumed, incorrectly, that they didn't change the ds software. Again, I apologize for the poor information.
