Team1625's Website

We recently got permission from out school board to create a website for the team and be able to go towards another award at competition.

We would appreciate it if you guys could take a look at our website and see what needs improving and what actually does look good.

If I may ask, why did you need permission from your school to make a website?

And great site!

It's apart of our schools policy that all school endorsed websites need to be off of the main website. Most likely to help protect kids from online 'threats'.

Re: Team1625's Website

A few suggestions

1) The FIRST, WHS, and Winnebago Fans Association logos on the top banner should link to their respective websites when you click on them

2) the "registering with TIMS" blurb on the left panel seems out of place. I think this should be incorporated into a new "Getting Involved" section

3) If I were a potential sponsor, it takes a bit of navigation to find team contact information. For people handing out money, you should make this process as easy as possible.

4) I think the homepage (i.e. if I where reading an article on rrstar.com about students doing robotics, what I would get linked to). Should be very concise and exciting so non team members are more likely to view other pages of the webpage. I think something like a picture slide show should be front and center as well as a short mission statement. For a non team member, the bot shop schedule for this week doesn't really give a whole lot of value. Having a central place to manage team activity is a perfectly valid use case for the webstie, however, I think a website is a very valuable tool in being able to quickly explain to someone what Winnovation and FIRST is about, to get them 'hooked' on to the idea and linking them to information about how they can contribute or get involved.

5) The information for light bulb orders is kind of hidden. In general, people don't click on links in less they are given a strong reason too (they also don't scroll but it looks like you have done a decent job of keeping the important stuff above the fold).

6) Where's the LinkedIn share button? http://developer.linkedin.com (sorry I just had to... ;))

Kyle,

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

The only problem with the linked logos at the top is that it is blogger and its apart of the header. :) I can also maybe see if we could have a homepage where it's the default page with the engaging paragraph and pictures.

Super nice job, you've got a great start and a well organized site. Yes, a clear sponsor tab would be good any maybe some other things. But don't let anyone in the future tear the site down and start over from scratch, unless they have a good reason.

Re: Team1625's Website

I'm not sure how, but I ended up on http://frc1625.blogspot.com/ and then couldn't get back to http://team1625.blogspot.com/ despite the two sites being fairly similar.

In just skimming your site, it took a while to find your contact information. There's nothing about what FIRST is, or your team history, besides the sole paragraph on your Super Sponsors page. Update the events page. You can keep the list there, but move it under a heading of "Past Events". As it is now, it looks like you haven't updated it.

The FIRST Logo in the header is distorted -- they do have some strict usage restrictions: http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default...elines_web.pdf (From this page: http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprogr...brand?id=17122 )

Nice site but I always enjoy a media tab where I can see pictures or videos of old robots from your team. Good job:)
