Sensing Angular Position Question
 
In order to sense an angular position a three terminal variable resistor may be connected to one of the analog ports on the robot. Would a 1K pot work the same as a 10K pot as a sensor? How is the output displayed on the driver's station computer?

The only noticeable difference is that the 1k pot will draw 10 times as much current from the 5v reference supply, compared to a 10k pot.

The default dashboard shows the voltages being applied to all of the inputs of the analog breakout board on the module in cRIO slot 1. It updates slowly, so you won't be able to see the details of a fast-changing input. If you want to monitor it on the dashboard more quickly, you'll have to put it in the "high priority" dashboard data stream from the robot and pull it out for display in your own dashboard code.

12/10000 of an amp is a very small current indeed, circuits will be happy there.

12/1000 of an amp is getting close to the limits of what the circuit can deliver, but with little or no additional load you'll be OK. Certainly a 1k pot will be fine for testing, and a 10k pot will provide (about) the same voltage per degree, so you can swap one in some later time with little or no changes to the software.
