Hoop Dimensions
For making models of backboards, the team I'm on, 2856, can't get the dimensions of the hoops exactly. We know where to drill the holes in the backboard for the hoop, but since we are making our own models rather than buy hoops, we don't know where the rim is in relation to those holes. Does anybody know how far from those holes or the bottom of the backboard the rim goes?

Re: Hoop Dimensions
Are you building just your own backboards, or are you also building the metal hoop part? also, your team number really startled me. haha.

Re: Hoop Dimensions
It should be in the 2012 Team Drawings pdf file. (try looking on page 14 of 27) :D

Re: Hoop Dimensions
Speaking of hoops, we are unable to buy the "official" hoops on Kauai. We have some other b-ball hoops of the proper size, but we're trying to match the color for some kind of optical sensor or image processing thing (hey, I'm the rules person, not a builder/programmer).
Can anyone tell us what the color is, in terms of RGB, CMYK or pantone? I asked the GDC and all they said was, 'we don't paint the hoops'. That's great if you are somewhere where you can just go buy the 'official' hoop. TIA! |
Re: Hoop Dimensions
We are also making the metal hoops; but when I posted that I had forgotten that the height is in relation to the rim, not the backboard, so it doesn't matter where we put the rim or the tape on the backboards as long as it fits.

Re: Hoop Dimensions
We bought the official hoop and found that the mounting holes did not agree with what was on the FIRST plan, so we aligned the top of the rim with the tape pattern (as shown on the plan), then mounted the hoop the correct distance from the floor. That way the target is in the correct relation to the hoop with is the correct height above the floor.
Using this method, you can use any regulation basketball hoop. Dr. Bob Chairman's Award is not about building the robot. Every team builds a robot. |
