RoboProm was alot of fun last year. As an added bonus, the floor deflects with the beat of the music. I guess thats what happens with all kinds of jumping students :P

Question: Do Event volunteers count as advisers?

(I am not officially affiliated with any team this year due to various reasons)

How long does it take for the tickets to sell out? Has there always been tickets available at the doors in St.Louis? or have they sold out before then?

I'll be sending this to my team! :)

I'm seconding Larry's question. I've never attended champs with a team, but have gone to Atlanta in 2010, and St. Louis last year, and hope to attend again this year.

According to their post last year the intent is to allow chaperones attend for free. If not chaperoning students, they have previously requested for all roboprom goers to pay admission.

As the popularity of RoboProm grows it is a bit hard to gauge how fast tickets will sellout. We have always had tickets available at the door and in the pits but I suggest you get your ticket early if you want to guarantee a spot. :)

And do robots need to pay? :p

A few people from my team (myself included) wore t-shirts last year without a problem. I wasn't planning on going to Roboprom beforehand so I simply didn't have anything better to wear. Most people are wearing something nicer, but you won't be alone if you just wear a t-shirt.

Last year several people on my team dressed in suits that were far too small/very old and not considered 'fashionable' by today's standards. And nobody had a problem with that :p

It's no big deal if you wear a T-shirt. Some people just like to dress up for the dance. My FAVORITE choice of clothing to see is definitely all the costumes :D

The guidelines are that Mentors and Advisers of a team or students attending RoboProm do not have to pay any admission.

Roboprom was started as a way for some high school students who missed their own senior prom because they attended championships. Roboprom is for all those students who can not afford or feel excluded from a 'regular' high school prom as a way to "have the experience".

Since the hotel is setting some limits on the number of people we would like to make sure that the high school students and teams attending championships have first opportunity for the tickets. HIGH SCHOOL Student Volunteers are welcome to attend and will have to pay admission.

We want to keep RoboProm fun for all and hope that everyone understands the basic guidelines. Private message me if you have some individual questions.

Thank you.

Unfortunately I can't go this year, but feel free to use any of 781's robotics pickup lines.

"You must be an uber tube because I feel twice as good when I'm with you."
"I don't need to inbound basketballs because I'm already a human player."
"It's like you're a bridge and I'm Team 118. I'm hung up on you."
"Can I have the autonomous code to you heart?"
"Forget about the Chairman's award. You're my Engineering Inspiration."

I think we had more, but this is as many as I can remember.

Of course you can wear it... your situation is why roboprom was created in the first place. Heck, if things had worked out, i would have worn my Tux to roboprom last year...

People have been a bit creative when it comes to RoboProm I've seen a suit
completely made of duck tape and even a dress made up of tubes. Maybe there's a basketball dress out there :D

Just so everyone is aware, the schedule has changed for Championship matches Thursday in a way that's going to make it hard for scouts, pit crews and drive teams to spend as much time as they might like at RoboProm :(

Quote:

Greetings Championship Teams:

To accommodate all FRC Championship teams, we are making an extension to our Thursday Qualification Matches.

Qualification Matches will begin at 1:00 pm and will run until 8:15 pm on Thursday, April 26th, with a dinner break from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm. The FRC Pits will be open from 7:00 am to 8:30 pm on this date.

Please monitor our 2012 Championship planning page: http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprogr...pionship-event and Championship email blasts for important updates as Championship approaches.

Go 2012 Championship Teams!

Any chance of moving the end of the dance till midnight. We are thinking that by the time we get done, changed and to the dance there will only be an hour left. Or changing the dress code so we can come straight from the pits?

It is likely we are extending the dance time to midnight, but nothing is final just yet.

Concerning the dress code: If going in your everyday clothes means you get an extra hour at the dance, no one will stop you at the door :) Jeans and a t-shirt is fine!

Hey Guys!

After working things out with the DJ and venue, we are happy to announce that the new scheduled time for RoboProm is 8:00 pm - 12:00 am.

We hope that pushing the event back an hour allows most teams to finish up with their matches.

There IS a ticket limit! We are selling no more than 1000 tickets to RoboProm. There are about 600 tickets left, so be smart and buy before St. Louis.

Last year, we sold about 900 tickets in the pits... Take that as a warning as to how fast these will be sold. Buying ahead will be worth it.

Just a couple announcements...

We have sold 535 tickets so far so that means only 465 left and we aren't even in St Louis yet :ahh:

We will be closing down the Paypal on Tuesday, April 24th.

As Akash mentioned earlier Team 3929 the Atomic Dragons will have some of these adorable guys all decked out for RoboProm available for purchase.

And last but not least, we will be continuing the age old tradition of crowning Prom King and Queen, with a robotics twist of course ;)

And now a word from the most interesting driver in the world:

I really wish I was able to go, unfortunately I have classes and work all during Championship. I have always wanted to go throughout my high-school years. My personal preference of attire is the tuxedo t-shirt, so classy.

I would like to wish everyone who is going a happy RoboProm!! I have no doubt that you will all have fun!!

The best kinds of pick up lines, hahaha.

We'll have fun for you, Eric ;).

This is the first time that 1676 will be going to Roboprom! We're having 4 kids (plus one mentor) attend, and are so excited!

P.S. Eric, can I borrow your tuxedo t-shirt?

Ha Ha. Actually I probably won't be using any pickup lines. If I want a RoboProm date I can always go to Pit Admin!

And it's official now, 281 is going to RoboProm. We will be leaving as soon as the matches end. We are also changing during the dinner break, so we will be all dressed up when we compete in our last match of the day. It should be a lot of fun.

Years ago I remember girls driving in prom dresses with signs on their back saying "we are missing prom for this".
I can't wait to see roboprom this year.

The Paypal pre-sale will be closing tonight.

Just a reminder for those that have already purchased tickets, be sure to bring your receipt to our pit on Thursday to pick up your tickets. We are in the Galileo division located across from Pit Admin, near Inspection. I have included the map of the pits, we are at the bright orange and purple arrow.

As of this morning we have sold 762 tickets so we will have a little less than 240 available for purchase in the pits on Thursday.

We've also gotten a few questions about parking. The Hyatt will have valet parking available at the hotel and there is a parking garage close by across the street. More details are found here.

Roboprom was so much fun. Everyone looked so beautiful.. I loved the costumes, especially the banana. I had to go back to my room to get something, and coming back to the 4th floor, just the lobby, it smelled soooo bad. It was hilarious. All the fist pumping and jumping.. The lady at the front desk told me that people were calling down because they thought there was an earthquake.

I actually have a complaint/concern..
My good friend has tendinitis. She's fine, she wears a band to keep her tenant in place and was allowed to go to championships and roboprom. She was a finalist for "Prom Queen." When the DJ announced that he was going to take the finalists on to the stage, the entire crowd stampeded forward. She and three other girls were not only knocked over, but were also stampeded on. She was in a wheel chair for the rest of championships.
Sorry to have to do this, I just wanted to bring it to your attention and hope for something better next year. Besides that, definitely a highlight of championships. I have so many pictures and memories. :)

How was it? Like what all happened that made it so fun? Our team didn't attend Champs and I really want to know all about everything that happened so that next time we go to Champs I'll be ready with my Roboprom date :D and you know, so we can emulate it at our party coming up. Hope to see you there! And tell your friend that 2073 extends our upmost sympathy for what happened to her :(

We are so sorry for what happened to your good friend. We make every effort to make the event safe and fun. Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention, we will put this into our lessons learned file and continue to improve the event. Our team has a lot of fun putting on RoboProm and hope to see you again next year.

Thank you again.

So...
where were the chaperones when this happened?

It might be wise to ask for Crowd Control next year if there is a stampede and there are no adults able to maintain control of it.

Wow, just wow.
