Poll: Kinect Usage

Just wondering how many teams are using the Kinect during hybrid, and what we should expect to see.

Well, our team isn't exactly using it for hybrid per say...what we're using it for is as an axis camera replacement pretty much. Nice IR lens + software = autotracking turret

Re: Poll: Kinect Usage

This poll currently shows the futility of the whole Kinect as an HMI thing.

If we have a 1 in 3 shot of getting the Kinect station, we need to write one or more fully autonomous programs anyway, so why not just write them all to be fully autonomous?

We're planning on writing something that's little more than the default code. It will just turn on the shooter and then let the driver's arms control the wheels, and have button to put our bridge-lowerer down.

Re: Poll: Kinect Usage

We felt that the only thing the Kinect could have been useful for, from a CONOPS reliability standpoint, is a "mode switcher" for autonomous routines. For direct realtime interaction we felt it was too imprecise.

We're going to attempt to integrate it with the camera on the robot during the offseason, I think.

Our Kinect is still in the box sitting in the cabinet I placed it in after taking it out of the KOP bin. I expect that we will try and incorporate it into a demo bot in the off season as well.

We're still trying to figure out if kinect + classmate is worth the weight compared to CMU camera on the robot... but we have no intention of using it during the hybrid period.
