Make sure that you have the Beta2 version of the SDK. You can check by going to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Kinect". The folder inside should be called "v1.0 Beta2"

Re: DRIVER STATION DOESNT RECOGNIZE KINECT

We do have the beta SDK, and it still will not connect, even over 2 different computers.

What does the Debug mode of the FRC Kinect Server do? What does the Kinect string on the DS Diagnostics tab say?

Kinect on Driver station used to say kinect timeout, but I went into the text file and double checked it and now it says no kinect on the dashboard. I also checked the file locations and those are right as well.

As for the kinect server debug mode, it runs a small window that does nothing and presents nothing but the name in the top right of the window as (2012 FRC Kinect Server) then it does nothing. I just restarted my computer with the kinect in it and it still says no kinect on the DS but it still works in the kinect skeleton viewer sample or whatever it's called.

Hmmm.... If you definitely have the Beta2 SDK and the Skeletal Viewer works, but the Kinect Server doesn't I'm out of ideas. Sorry :(

Be sure you are using the proper version of the Kinect Beta2 SDK. I was trying to install the 32-bit version of the SDK on a 64-bit computer and had the same issue.

If you don't know which SDK you have/need, download both the 32-bit (x86) and the 64-bit (x64) versions and try them one at a time.

Good luck!

Re: DRIVER STATION DOESNT RECOGNIZE KINECT

A timeout string means that the Kinect Server SW isn't running, and you may want to click the restart button near the LED.

If the string says No Kinect, that means the server is running, but that the server cannot open a connection to a Kinect device.

Especially if you are on a slow computer, you may want to disconnect, reboot, connect, and listen to the sounds and watch that the "drivers being installed" stuff comes up in the bottom right. You could also check the Device Manager and verify that the drivers successfully loaded.

Some MS guidelines are to plug the Kinect into its own USB controller, and especially don't plug it into a hub with lots of other devices.

What restart button? If it's on the drivers station, I've tried that and it doesn't connect. It flashes red quick then goes to the no kinect grey. Which leads me to think it's an Frc kinect Server.

I have tried taking everything off other than the kinect and no luck. I know the pc cannot connect two programs to the kinect so ive been avoiding that as well. It will run the skeleton viewer. (not the -wpf one what does that mean? It says I can connect another kinect) it just will not connect to the diver station. And after up to 3am of work, windows is driving me crazy. I might smash this piece of crap >.<

farmersvilleRob 21-02-2012 09:21

Oh and nothin else is in USB ports. An the kinect is alone in it without any relays

Re: DRIVER STATION DOESNT RECOGNIZE KINECT

WPF means Windows Presentation Foundation and is actually the version the Kinect Server appears to be based off of (loosely).

farmersvilleRob 21-02-2012 10:00

Hmm.. So mine doesn't run or register the kinect properly but I've reinstalled it 3 times! And once I completely delved it first!

Did you try plugging it in under the Developer user? That's what I had to do setting up our Kinect

Re: DRIVER STATION DOESNT RECOGNIZE KINECT

If you want to debug this, you can load the source for the Kinect Server and run it in Visual Studio Express to see if the errors returned by the NUI calls help. I'd gladly tell you how to fix it, but I haven't seen this before.

Other swap-out things you can try are to try a different account, a different computer, or a different Kinect.

I'm going to try throwing all the kinect files on the netbook we got at kickoff and see. The only problem with the netbook is that it didn't update labview correctly, so I have one pc that has labview and can't debug the kinect diver station and one that might run the kinectdriver station and not labview..

Re: DRIVER STATION DOESNT RECOGNIZE KINECT

the netbook or whatever failed as well but thats because it didn't recognize direct x runtime, WHICH I HAVE! >.< so I'm back to my acer i3 to solve the problems. I currently am downloading the c sharp express, BUT I have version 2010 before and I'm trying 2008 to see if this may be due to an incompatibility issue.

rererererererrerererererererererre installing kinect SDK. hopefully for anyone else having these issues, I'll have it solved, if not, please post how you fixed it or how you went through the instructions because i've noticed that those are slightly off as well (for example, the kinect sdk link takes you to a VERY general starter page)

If you do get it working, could you please post exactly what you did? We still can't get ours working after installing, uninstalling, re-installing…..

I sure will! What frustrates me the most is that FIRST didn't organize the files into a single directory under password protect in the first website. That would be the best for everyone, but now with the massive file searching we have to do plus all the updates, it's confusing for those, like myself, that aren't as good at understanding SDKs more than downloading. :(

As you can see, the skeletal viewer is working, but still no FRC Kinect Server. It's now not even running.. Will try this thread on FRC to see if I can fix it this way:

here is a common error I'm seeing when I spam the refresh button on the FRC Dashboard. I'm re-downloading/installing the beta 2 sdk.

Well, I may have found out what was wrong here… I never actually installed the FRC Kinect Server.. I was just running the kiosk.. The 2 downloads are so spread out, I never even saw the server. I will have to try once I get the Kinect back tomorrow.

They shouldn't be spread out, mine are all under the same directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\FRC Kinect Server

The background of this picture is the V1.0 release SDK not Beta2 which is why you are getting that exception. The Beta is here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/kinec...elop/beta.aspx
