222 Tigertrons Rebound Rumble

Here is all the video I have for sharing ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6XHRgoZvnc

See you at Chestnut Hill, Mount Olive, and St. Louis.

As you can see at the time of this photo there was still a bit of work to do on our competition machine, but that's okay. ::ouch::

That is so good. :yikes:

Just curious but can it pick balls up from the floor or just from the human player station?

We can pick up balls from the floor. We have not tried the human player station yet.

Stay tuned for possible additional. Videos from practice and also some autonomous action.

Cliff and Co.-

Another fine looking 222 machine. Nice work on getting the practice robot done as well! I'm looking forward to watching her live at Mount Olive!

Looking solid guys. Your intake design limiting the number of balls to three while allowing a large collection zone is really clever.

Any update to TigerDrive this year? I really need to get my hands on one of those transmissions at some point.

I love that intake. How easily does it spit balls back out?

Thanks guys our team has really worked hard on these two. We've had the practice bot (AKA spaghetti monster) mostly functional for 2 weeks or so. All systems are very simple mechanisms and are proving to be very reliable. Our programming team has been working on fine tuning several key shots for our strategy and our autonomous mode.

The collector is our swiss army knife. We don't usually like to put all our eggs in one basket, but we are pleased with how well we can collect balls and use the collector for bridge control. We can also spit balls back out of the roller if there is a a jam or to feed a team mate.

The Tigerdrive is mainly unchanged this year except for a bearing swap on our input gear cluster and some housekeeping on the shifting cylinder mount.

Again thanks for the compliments. We hope to put on a good show for everyone Good luck to everyone in your competitions!

Great Looking Robot 222!

Can't wait to see it in person at Chestnut Hill. ;)

Great looking bot! Looking forward to seeing you all in person at Chestnut Hill! Nice back-up bot, also. You've gotta love twins! Sometimes ours are identical, and sometimes fraternal! :D

I wanted to build this robot. It's uncanny how similar the design is to what we were working on early in the season -- before we decided to go catapult rather than spinning wheel, anyway. So, of course, I think it's awesome.

Some questions:
--What is the purpose of the vertical divider in the collector?
--How do you avoid jamming when going from three balls wide to a single ball shooter?
-- How do you load the shooter?

The vertical divider is there to prevent jamming when we unload into the shooter. We hold back one ball using the divider and lexan arm mounted on a servo. Holding back one ball is only one part of the solution to how we prevent jamming though.

The chute in between our collector and the shooter is critical. We spent two days cutting, bending and trying different chutes to get a consistent feed. We also added a small piece of 1/4" polycord to create a "speed bump" to slow the second ball from feeding at the exact same time as the first. I can tell you that the ball chute required much patience and tinkering.

We load the shooter using the most unique COTS part we've ever used on a robot...we use a dog food/water bowl mounted on an 8" stroke cylinder to throw the ball into the shooter wheel.

We got slightly concerned about how our spinning wheel would work based on how inconsistent the balls become after use, but so far it's not seeming to be a problem. I'm guessing that' because we have almost 2 inches of pinch on the ball.

John and Dustin can't wait to see you all at Chestnut Hills either I can't wait to see what your teams have come up with.

The vertical divider does just that! It prevents a three ball jam when loading the shooter. There is a servo that prevents that ball from rolling out of it's compartment. There is also a "speed bump" on the opposite side to slow that ball down. :-)

The shooter is loaded with a $3 stainless steel dog bowl mounted on a cylinder.

EDIT: Really you beat me to it by one minute? LOL Two explanations are better than one right?
