Their video player choice is kind of odd, though. Some computers are having issue with it, from what I'm told.

I'm also extremely surprised and impressed this somehow managed to make it all the way to a California news station (and this quickly, I might add). Crazyness of the internet, I suppose. Awesomesauce, for all!

Where is this tv station located in California. There has to be FIRST teams in need of exposure nearby. All FIRST teams deserve their moment in the sun.

585 is the only active team in the area and we do get some local love from 1 of the 3 tv stations ,I posted the story to show how FIRST teams can get the word out about its programs ,Keep up the good work

In an even more bizarre twist to this story, we were also mentioned in a 20 second clip on yesterday's (2/21/12) edition of The Countdown Show with Keith Olberman!

We're mentioned at about the 26:05 mark in the video, if you can find it. I'll try to post a direct link if I can get it.

Does anyone have any clue how this was picked up by anyone outside central Illinois? We're completely baffled.

Pardon the cynical observation but news media are suckers for already prepared material. You might phrase it "If you write (or film) it they will print (or show) it." The network might also be stroking an affiliate by using their stuff. It's all about filling up the show.

Please do not construe my comment to mean that any team or FIRST is in any way unworthy of notice. It's just an observation of how the media work.

The clip was originally filmed by WMBD, from central Illinois. Bakersfield probably just picked it up to fill time and not have to send out a filming crew.
