I swear that half of the robots posted in the Showcase section are FLR robots.

On another subject, who would be interested in a Chief Delphi meetup at FLR this year?

The link to 191 takes me to a picture of 1551. Everything else looks good, thanks for the list!

Edit: Totally down for the meet up, as long as we pick a convenient time for everyone involved.

Re: 2012 FLR Robots

To teams 145, 1507, 3015, 3157

Heads up: your bumpers as shown here are ILLEGAL as per rule <R35>.

<R35>: Teams shall display their team number on the Bumpers in four locations at approximately 90° intervals around the perimeter of the Robot. The numerals must be at least 4 in. high, at least ¾ in. in stroke width, and be either white in color or outlined in white. Team numbers must be clearly visible from a distance of not less than 100 ft, so that judges, referees, and announcers can easily identify competing Robots.

Question on 2/8/12 by Team 1619:

A. Rule [R35] requires that the team number be displayed in four locations, no more or fewer.

145, 1507, and 3015: your robots appear to display your team number in five locations around your frame.

3157, your bumpers in that video have numbers split across the front, also ruled illegal by the Q&A.

Thanks for getting Devil Tech up there Steve.

Looks like we have some great robots in the mix... I look forward to competing with all of you this year!

Edit: Is there a marginally smaller number of teams attending this year?

What kind of a drivetrain is that!? It looks like swerve with the long belt runs, but there's a Cim on the shooter and I'm just all kinds of confused. Can't wait to see that beast in person.

41 teams. Mostly local.

Awesome robot maybe we can work together like we did at the Ruckus :)

It looks like some type of swerve to me. I second that I cant wait to see their robot :)

I too noticed that they weren't attending this year, sad indeed. They always raised the bar of competition at FLR.

On our drive train - it has been designed over the past year by mentors and students, and machined and built by the students this entire build season. I personally do not know much of it, however the students are excited to show it off and answer all of your questions. It really is a beauty to behold.

Actually, 174 is from Liverpool, NY. There is one Canadian team and there are two teams from Ohio coming to FLR. The rest are New Yorkers!

My guess is that 174 put together a swerve with a custom gearbox, similar to what 118 did back in 2007. Maybe a 3 CIM, 1 or 2 FP gearbox running a coaxial swerve?
I can see at least one FP motor elsewhere on the robot, so I don't know what is running the drive, but I'm guessing it's handled with a central gearbox.

We finished our unveil video a little late... I dropped it in the Robot Showcase, but I figure here's a good place, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrM2GlbGOBQ

Re: 2012 FLR Robots

Looks good 1551. So when you go over the bump do you use the mechs?
Also when will you you use the plaction wheels? For pushing?

I want to investigate your robot more at FLR. Curious.

We use both the performance (not plaction) and the mechs when going over the barrier.

A. Pushing matches (assuming they come up, which they usually do).
B. Bridge traction -- we *can* balance with the mecanum wheels, but the lower speed, higher traction drive is great for easier balancing -- it also allows us to park in place (sideways or longways) and let our alliance partners balance with us as dead weight if that's easier for them.

stundt1 27-02-2012 20:16

Re: 2012 FLR Robots

Excuse my stupidness when it comes to drive trains. :)

Also, if they would use you as a dead weight wouldn't you use the mechs?
Then you could turn easily and go sideways.
And it would be easy for them to push you if needed.

But I don't know how well the mechs will actually grip the actual material on the bridges because its very slippery.

That depends. If they want to be able to push us, we can use the mechs. If they want us to stay still while they move back and forth to balance, we can do that, too.

Reasonably well, but not as well as the performance wheels. You also get a lot of help with the performance wheels -- they're much harder to backdrive than the mecanum wheels are, and have essentially no sideways slip.

I'm curious what your strategy was behind this design. What do you expect your robot to be doing match in, match out?

Looks good, can't wait to learn more about it

Score points and balance bridges.

Our design has been modular from the beginning, with a down/up-scale functionality based on what it is that we are actually able to pull off. That is to say, not only our mechanical systems, but our strategy has been modular -- we designed things so that pushing for more than we think we might be able to accomplish actually brought us closer to more realistic goals as well, so that time was well-spent even if the ultimate functionality envisioned didn't pay off.
