This event is the focus of our season. Excited and concerned to see the Robonauts in our little state. But hey, "little" in surface area only, right?

So excited for Hartford! :D
And surprise surprise, Athena's Warriors will be a part of the competition this year. It helps now that we got the differences between wrenches and pliers together....JUST KIDDING. We also got a mentor from Michigan so everyone knows what that means :) Everyone look for purple. We have limited edition buttons with our Robot namesake Rosie the Riveter this year that we will be giving out to teams (one a piece). Looking forward to see you all! -Anna |

As for food, there is a restaurant attached to the Marriot, but not a whole lot less than 2 blocks away, except a couple bars. |

Oddly enough, even though I live pretty close to Hartford, I can't say I'm all that familiar with the dining scene. I've heard good things about Black Eyed Sally's, but I'm not sure if that fits into a regional schedule well. ...wow, I feel awful that I can't name a restaurant that fits your description. I guess that's what I get for being spoiled with good food closer to home. |

City steam (A brew pub, with a large restaruant) has a nice reasonably priced menu a couple blocks away. I reccomend Salute! for Italian which is on Bushnell park, might be too pricey for ateam though. Other reasonable places further from the Marriot (~4 block) Burger Baby, a gourmet burger bar. The Tavern Downtown. Agave, Mexican. The big problem with the lower priced places is they tend to be small and primarily bars. |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Check out hartford.com for ideas. Don't forget Arch Street Tavern - I *think* you can order takeout. It's within a couple of blocks of the venue.

Not sure where the current team list within this thread was taken from, but 869 is not included on it...regardless, 869 is coming to the CT Regional for the second year and looking forward to it! This competition has become a favorite among our team members and we can't wait! See everyone in a few days!

CT FIRST has a lot of information posted now. somewhere in this vicinity. The legend says pits are 12x12. Is that a gross of square feet? The black things in the aisles are roof support columns, I think. There is one smack in the middle of one aisle. Do they draw these on autopilot? Also repeating last year's mis-labeling of team's path to competition field. Unless they're going to reverse the flow this year. Queuing area is not drawn, so your guess may be as good as mine. One safety classes station is correctly placed. the other is shown too far into the pit area to do much good. |

Just finished watching all the match videos of all the robot's coming to Hartford. It's really going to be a quite a battle especially in the elimination rounds with so many quality scorers.
We have some minor changes we are going to implement on Thursday morning and one major one. We are hoping we can put on a better show than we did at NYC. #stinger |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Team 694 will be launching an initiative aimed at tackling the issue of knowledge disparity among new and old members of FIRST: a weekend-wide “idea drive” known as FIRSTthoughts. We are asking for teams to donate ideas and thoughts that have guided them throughout their team’s history, to be shared with teams in need of such knowledge.
What is FIRSTthoughts? FIRSTthoughts takes the expertise of individual team members and mentors, and shares it with the greater FIRST community in the spirit of gracious professionalism. This project aims to tackle the “wealth gap” in experience and resources between veteran and rookie teams, and make the FIRST experience as valuable as possible for all participants. How does it work? Team members, mentors, and supporters can make a brief, 2-minute video of themselves (or let our handy crew do it for you at select FIRST Regionals) and upload it to YouTube. They can then embed that video on www.FIRSTthoughts.org, where it will be tagged and archived along with the submissions of other participants from around the world. Topics for videos can include anything from a battle plan for fundraising to your team’s nifty trick for fixing leaky pneumatics. Then, when the time comes around when you need the answer to a quick question, or a starting point for your own idea, you can tap into the vast resources of the FIRSTthoughts archives for inspiration. Sample Questions to Answer:
FIRSTthoughts at the Hartford Regional: FIRSTthoughts will have a crew operating at the Northeast Utilities Regional in Hartford, CT from 3/29-3/31. We’ll be visiting team pits, asking for a piece of your team’s experience. Good luck to all -- can't wait for Thursday! |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Ahh I can't believe it's almost here!
Max is getting very excited for the event this year. We're just about packed, and our Thursday crew is all prepped and prepared to kick-off the madness :P that will be going on all weekend. Of course I hope everyone is willing to stop by our pit and have a talk with any of us on the team about our robot, our program, and anything else we do. Also our video team will be filming a new promo video for the Where's Wolcott? Invitational at the event, so if you see someone in a Max shirt with a camera, pull them aside and ask to be a part of it. Lastly make sure to keep an eye out for our Mascott Agua, as he'll be walking around saying hi to our fans and getting everyone excited for the fantastic weekend ahead of us. In preperation for the event, our PR team made a couple video's about the event. First is a message from our Captain Kyle and your's truly about our participation in the upcoming event: http://youtu.be/BN7dP1EejXM Here is a quick video introducing the 2012 MAX Drive Team : http://youtu.be/bZRO1Ya1v1g Lastly we've been working out making a better robot video, although I'm not sure when my video guys will get it done, so for now here's a video of Max X back before Suffield, although I want to warn you, there will be some "interesting" changes taking place on it Thursday morning.;) http://youtu.be/Mwt9Ljn_Vv8 On a personal note, even though I'll be running around crazy all weekend, feel free to pull me aside if you have any questions about the team, our robot, or anything as crazy as what's my favorite color. :P |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Who else is liking the 12x12 pit areas and the wide aisles this year? Make sure you let the organizers know your appreciation.
I likewise hope you're having fun and are successful tomorrow and Saturday. I've been impressed by the variety of machinery and mechanisms in use for this game. You all need to take a little time to stop and scan your neighbors' creations. You never can tell whence cometh inspiration for your next years' robots. |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Holy Moly! This is destined to be epic. The CT regional has taken advantage of "no crates" and expanded the pit + 10 qual rounds for 64 teams + Potentially the toughest field of contenders + the majority of teams having played one or two competitions already+the easiest city/venue to get in and out of (imho) = epic.
To all teams and coaches I talked to on Thursday, everyone has been the very best in GP. I'm thrilled just to be here. Now, it's 6:30 AM, let's go! |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Great level of play at this regional, some of the most consistently good qualification matches I've seen.
It's also nice to see some teams having progressed a lot since I last saw them at WPI. Although I'm not sure what's happening with 228, they seem to not have had their shooter calibration right so far. |

Sorry Gus, the Boston & NYC regionals left us with less than optimum supply of new balls. We have been weeding out the heavily scarred & gouged balls. Tomorrow morning will be just lightly scuffed balls & new ones for the eliminations. This field has already taken a beating prior to us getting it. We will do our best to make a stellar competition tomorrow. I hope I can help out. Just come to me & ask away & we shall do our best. Best of luck to all teams for tomorrow.

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Well yesterday was a bit depressing for Devil tech. We expected to be in the top rankings but managed to end up close to the bottom. it wasnt the robots fault... Just poor strategy.
We have three more matches today, look out for us... We may be RANKED low but we can offer quite a bit. <shameless pitch> to Anyone interested in a wide bot that can do everything the game requires: stop over at our pits and lets talk! </shameless pitch> Good luck everyone, there are some amazing teams at this regional! |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Well at least the foot's working well. Nice triple there by the 2nd seed 228/177/236.
EDIT: Both 177 and 118 died in consecutive matches as part of the red alliance. I wasn't observant enough to notice whether it was the same station, but is there going to be a replay, or is 177/228/236 out? 118's out and according to their twitter it doesn't seem to be FMS. So some semi upsets and really bad luck to some teams there. Disabled robots is never what you want to see. 195/181/20 [3rd seed] vs 2067/1071/558 [5th seed]. The 3rd seed has had a perfect auto so far, I think they might take this, but it should be close. I don't think either triples, or has successfully. Correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck to both alliances! Hope it's an exciting one. |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional

It seems the issue was cRIOs rebooting midmach, which the FMS can't control. The FMS only talks to the driver station, not the robots themselves. The stumping part is how some wifi packets can cause cRIOs to reboot. There just weren't the diagnostic tools to figure it out well, so nobody really knows what happened. |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
What an awesome regional! The heat of this competition was intense to say the least.
Id like to extend a massive thank you to the GaelHawks(230) and of course Stuypulse(694), you guys were great partners (and captains) and our strategy was nearly airtight... Gus' alliance was a powerhouse, so I knew the quarterfinals would be rough. Congrats to the winners! Those were some great finals matches to watch. |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Congrats to Rolling Thunder (1511) on snagging the Engineering Inspiration Award!! Another great team is St. Louis bound!
|
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Congratulations to regional winners 195, 181 and 20 and to all the other award winners at the CT Regional. We had an amazing time working with our friends at Team Max, 1071, and our friends and scouting partners Apple Pi, 2067. Being able to play so far and so well with teams we so like and respect made the journey all that much more enjoyable, and more satisfying. It's not every alliance captain that will agree to take the less glamorous role of playing defense, but 1071 you did it willingly and did it well. And Apple Pi, it was a pleasure to play with our scouting buddies at CT instead of against them, like we had to at WPI LOL. We wish you the best of luck in St. Louis!
I also want to say that this was an extremely deep regional, with some great robots that weren't fortunate enough to make eliminations. To name just a few: 1124, 839, 1511 (so glad you won EI!) So many amazing machines, and, as always, an extremely competitive event. |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
I'm sure that 118 can give a more detailed answer for their specific issue, however I want to clarify some of the dead robot scenarios. There were 3 consecutive matches in which a robot(s) was/were dead for all or part of the match. (Not including finals.)
SF2 for 1 seed - 118 - Red Alliance station 3 - Dead whole match SF2 for 2 seed - 177 - Red Alliance station 3 - Dead whole match SF2 for 2 seed - 228 - Red Alliance station 2 - Dead part of match SF3 for 1 seed - 118 - Red Alliance Station 2 - Dead whole match While FIRST says the issue was on the robot end, I find it hard to believe that in three consecutive matches, robots that worked fine previously, suddenly did not work. I find it unfortunate that the MC announced to the audience that the teams were at fault for the issue, particularly when the FTA said after the regional that he had no idea what was causing the problems. I can also say that 118 worked in the pits both before and after the match using a tether. Moving on to the rest of the regional. Our driver station refused to connect to the field on Friday morning and we spent 4 matches working with the FTA trying to correct the issue. We would really like to thank him for being patient and working with us to solve all of those issues with us, even staying through lunch to help us troubleshoot, we appreciate it, even though it never ended up working. Your spare classmate saved our regional. Then on Saturday morning, the drive motor issues from BAE resurfaced. It took all morning to troubleshoot the issue, and we finally put the robot together after sitting dead for our first three matches on Saturday. I will come back and elaborate more on the issues so we can troubleshoot the issue more, but we ended up replacing almost every component on our electronics board before the morning was through. We would like to thank the FTA again, another volunteer named Oliver, and two mentors from 1511 for helping us troubleshoot the issue all morning. You made our eliminations possible. I would also like to say to 177, 6 years on Einstein was a fantastic run and it's unfortunate it had to come to an end because of control system issues. It's a feat likely never to be seen again. Lastly, I would like to thanks 2168 and 118 for picking us for eliminations. We know you took a huge leap of faith in doing so, but we were able to triple balance twice on the practice field and twice in matches and it was a lot of fun. We're disappointed that control system issues on 118 ended the regional for us, especially after control issues cost us BAE and 2168 NYC. We wish 118 luck next week in trying to qualify for championship. That robot is a work of art and it would be a loss for it not to be in St. Louis. I am also amazed we won the Creativity award for our drive train and you did not win that award for your innovative coopertition balancing system. That was totally cool. |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Congratulations to 195, 181, and 20 you guys fought hard and 195 worked really hard all weekend and played amazingly.
Congratulations 694 on winning Chairmans and 1511's EI you are two well rounded teams with amazing programs! Many thanks to those who organized this regional it was my first time in CT and the event overall was top-notch! The venue, food, and pit room was great and the volunteers were awesome! I recorded all the matches (minus matches 1-31 as they somehow were corrupted) so those should circulate on TBA soon (sooner if someone would like me to send them the files to parse them up and label them! I wanted to quickly congratulate our students who really pulled through all around over the past three days in every aspect as a team. Getting to see a top notch scout team come together at this event, our drivers perfoming well beyond my expecations (hitting two auto, five top teleop and balancing), and a team who made a robot that never broke down in the two events it has competed in just blows my mind!!! These kids are amazing to work with and the quality award was well deserved on their part. It wasn't quite the finish we were hoping for but we learned a lot and had a blast!! We thouroughly enjoyed the regional and hope to see many teams during the off-season where we hope to take our robot to a finals match! |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
I had such a great time talking to the teams at the regional throughout the weekend and watching you play - you guys are all amazing, and I wish there were more awards to recognize you for your efforts. The CT Regional always has teams with a lot of history and deep field, this year more so than ever. There was an amazing volunteer crew as well. Thank you so much to all of the volunteers that made the event happen, you were so much fun to work with!
I hope everyone enjoyed the team social and the alumni events. Let me know if you have any suggestions for next year and stay tuned for some new CTFAN opportunities. :) |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
What a fantastic weekend. Seems like every year CT is just more and more fun.
Before I get into thanking everyone who made this weekend so amazing for us I want to give a shout out to team 2168. You guys were absolutely awesome at NY and were robbed of a chance to play your alliance's full game in the elims, for the same thing to happen in CT is abosluetly heartbreaking. You guys are without a doubt one of the best teams who aren't going to be at championship. 2168 is going to be a team to watch rise up into the top tier of team's over the next year or two. Your robot was great but the way you guys run your team is even better. Also thank you again for your advice at the end of NY, it really helped us come alive at CT. To our partners: 230, you were awesome all weekend and really started scoring like crazy on saturday morning. We were so happy that you were still on the board when we were picking as the 7th seed. I love your team and I'm glad we finally got to play together. 1559, we thought in the position we were in you would likely be our first round pick. we were so happy you guys were there for us to pickup. You were great all weekend and did not question the strategy in the elims no matter how crazy and different it was for you guys, not every team can make a transition like that so easily and you did a trully great job. I would also like to throw a very quick thank you to GUS for hooking us up with a pneumatic piston replacement for one of our stingers, we never ended up needing to put it on but it definitely made us feel safer for the elimination rounds. Also congrats to dave for becoming a dean's list finalist. We played one match with you guys and from that I could already tell that you were a great leader and smart student. Congratulations to the winning alliance of 195, 181, and 20. 195 you are just one of my favorite teams and we had a great time with you guys in the stands and during your team dinner. You were just the most deadly scorer and I'm happy you were able to punch your ticket to the championship. 181, your auton was just plain old deadly. Every single match it hit 2 or possibly more off of the bridge, nuff said. 20, your clearing strategy was great and it was awesome to see you guys pull out the win. Also congratulations to 1511 for winning engineering inspiration, I love how your team runs almost as much as I love your utility vests and I have admired your team for years, it was great to see you come to CT this year and hopefully you will be back again in the future. On the note of all the comms issues, starting SF1-2 I believe there was a comms issue in every single match until the end of the regional. I believe Finals match 3 didn't have issues which is good because that is the most important match to be decided purely by the bots on the field putting their all out there. The MC announced at some point that there was an issue with teams and that issue could not possibly be caused by the FMS and had to be the team's own faults. Now this could very well be a series of unfortunate events but I know from personal experience that them saying it isn't the FMS's fault doesn't always mean that, in 09 we were told this and found out after that it wasn't quite true but it was too little too late, the regional was long over and I really hope this does not happen here. I know that the FTA was doing everything in his power to figure out what happened and what the right call here was and I don't doubt his judgement, but I would hate to find out that FIRST found some errors that they were causing that robbed these alliances at their fair shake at the title. This statement is not intended to take away from the winning alliance because quite honestly I loved the winning alliance but it would have been great to see a the fully functional triple balancing alliances face off with the powerhouse ball scoring of the alliance that ultimately won. I also want to thank all of the volunteers, judges, announcers, and the new MC who, as much as I loved Jack in the Hat, was absolutely awesome, constantly high energy with strong knowledge of all of the teams. I'd also like to thank all the teams that come to this event every year and make it just awesome with their presence, to name a few who I have not yet mentioned there is 175, 1124, 236, 177(sucks to see that streak end), 173, 126, and so many others. I can't wait to see everyone at St. Louis, I am still kind of in disbelief that we qualified with the last possible award again and that we got to cut the net(#cutthenet), which was awesome. I had a blast at CT this year and cannot wait till next year. |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
I want to clarify something: we had no comms issues on the red alliance during any of the finals matches. During final 1, our robot went dead almost immediately after hybrid period. After the match, both our coach and the FTA rushed to the robot and immediately saw that all power was off. This told them that it was NOT a communication issue, but a power issue. We later determined that we had a faulty connector to the main breaker. Our alliance used its time out, and the problem was repaired. This was not a field issue, but a robot issue. Later, one of our alliance partners was stopped at the key for a time and not shooting. Again, this was not a comm issue; their shooter jammed and they were unable to score. Again, at no time during any of the final three matches did any robot on the red alliance have an issue with field communciation.

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
I know myself and the rest of Team 126 had a fantastic time. The last couple qualification matches and elims were some of the most intense and fun matches I've ever been a part of. We had some trouble with accuracy because of the new balls (we had calibrated our shooter based on the used balls in quals). All in all, what a great time. We did manage a 3 wide base robot triple balance on the practice field, and were a few seconds away from getting it on the field.
![]() for anyone that didn't see it, 869 come across the ramp, turns sideways, 126 strafes with mecanum wheels, and 175 would push both sideways up the bridge. 869 has a slide on top of their bot to shift the weight, and Buzz has one heavy end, with a brake, to allow them to hang half the bot of the edge. |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Congratulations to teams 195, 181 and 20 on your win. Good luck to all of you at Championship.
A huge thank you to our alliance partners 228 and 236. It's unfortunate 2 of us were not working in our last match, for whatever reason anyone wants to believe. I wish we could have shown what our alliance was capable one more time. 228: You have a great machine and team. We had a lot of fun practicing and competing with you this season. The 3 robot balance was great to see in competition and went way smoother than I expected. 236: You guys had a great machine and played smart as always. We were lucky that you were still around that late in the draft. Good luck at Championship. I would also like to thank 118 for making the trip to CT. I am sorry things ended for you the way they did. You guys are a great team and always build an amazing machine. Thank you for giving me the tour of your machine. Good luck next weekend. It would be a shame if your team was not at championship. The Bobcats now have a bit more free time this April, but our students are excited to bring our machine to to some offseason comps. -Eric |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
What an exciting weekend! Team 20 would like to thank our awesome alliance partners 195 and 181 for picking us. We know it was a crap shot to get picked after our sub-par performance on Friday (never using CAN again!), and we are grateful you noticed us on Saturday. Congrats to 558, 1071, and 2067. Those were great matches against you, and I got nervous when I saw you try for the triple balance.
It is unfortunate that there were so many issues with robots towards the end. We had to reboot out robot mid-match several times. We were lucky that we were able to come back up from it; others were not so lucky. 118, your robot was the most beautiful I have ever laid eyes on, and the variety of ways it could accomplish game goals was daunting. 177, 228, and 236, I wish we got to play in matches with no robot issues. I think if they allowed that, we would still be playing today! Finally, huge thanks to 1665. Our driverstation is not a classmate (we have had problems with their durability), so we couldn't charge it on the field. After all our matches our drive coach would run back to the pit to charge it, but the battery was slowly losing its strength. Reconfiguring and lending us your driverstation was a huge help, and we ended up needing it for our final matches. |

2168 wishes 118 the best of luck next week. You've built a beautiful robot, and were a pleasure to work with. 2791, we couldn't have had a better bot on the field with us. Those triples were amazing to watch. 195, I'm glad you guys took the win, you've got a great group, and it was awesome seeing you guys get your machine tuned up to full potential through NYC and CT. |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
What a crazy weekend! In no particular order:
-181: you guys' autonomous program is the big reason we picked you, on top of your excellent ability to balance and your tele-op scoring capabilities. It was fantastic getting to work with you guys, and that 36-point autonomous was incredible. Great work! -20: at our strategy/scouting meeting Friday night I kind of came up with and talked a lot about the idea of "alliance composition." Essentially, my idea was that at this regional the winning alliance was going to be one of two major alliance composition types: an alliance that attempted to win games by triple balancing, and an alliance that attempted to win by dominating hybrid and teleop. Because our (195's) robot was very good in hybrid and teleop but lacked a stinger or some other mechanism to help balance a bridge, we knew that our best bet was to dominate hybrid and teleop, thereby offsetting the 20 points lost in a triple balance. Our pit scouting uncovered that you guys would be great at feeding balls both in hybrid AND in teleop, so we watched you guys very closely on Saturday morning. Obviously, even with the issues you guys suffered in the elims (I'm going to elaborate on this a little more later), we were incredibly glad we picked you guys. When you guys were working you balanced the bridge every time and our side of the field was always absolutely packed with balls because you fed us so well. Fantastic job both to your drivers and pit crew for working through all the difficulties you had this weekend. -2067 / 1071: fantastic job guys! I talked with you guys a lot before and after the finals and again, I am thrilled to have played with and against you guys and to see you achieve this success here. You guys definitely earned it! -558: I'll be honest here; when I first saw your robot at Suffield this year I was skeptical. Since then though my opinion on your robot has changed drastically. I don't think I ever saw you guys miss a ball in Hybrid, and your tele-op scoring was always dead on. It was just awesome how consistent that arm was. You guys definitely earned your spot in the finals there. -228: I talked a lot with you guys, but for everyone else, I can't say enough good things about GUS. Their robot was a true feat of engineering, and it looked absolutely incredible. That, and it was so ridiculously fast on the field! Very fun to watch. -118: The most professional FRC robot I've ever seen, hands down. If 228 was a feat of engineering, your robot was a wonder of engineering. At one point my programmer posed the question "I wonder which is a more impressive feat of engineering - 118's robot or the convention center where this is being held," and neither of us could agree which was more impressive. Ever since you released your video our entire team has been unable to stop talking about your robot, and after seeing it in action I don't think that's about to change. The way you guys conducted yourselves was also incredibly professional - even with the...uhhh, circumstances you guys were handed in the semis you guys still kept calm and even, something i was very impressed by. Oh, and I want to say, the fact that you replaced virtually every system on your robot and still managed to get out and score baskets on Thursday was incredible. If our team tried something like that we probably wouldn't have been running 100% until our last Qual match. When I saw you guys replacing your whole drivetrain I could only think to myself "how in the world would these guys finish this in time for tomorrow," but you guys more than found a way. Good luck at Lone Star next week - you guys absolutely deserve the win! -2168: Another robot I was very impressed by. There needs to be more engineering awards at these 60-robot regionals, because you guys (along with 228 and 118 of course) definitely deserved something. Oh, and I remember a mentor on your team saying something along the lines of "I can't believe we were the first seed in both regionals but still couldn't win, what did we do wrong?" You know, winning a regional is impressive, but there are THREE regional winners. There is only one first seed. I'd say that getting first seed TWO REGIONALS IN A ROW is about as impressive as winning both regionals in a row. You guys didn't do much wrong; in fact, I'd say you did something seriously, seriously right to end up at the top of both regionals. -1124: I'd like thank to these guys for their support and encouragement. I'd also like to give a shout out to Phil Lopreiato, who a few weeks ago helped us fix the control loops on our swerve modules. Without him I don't know if we ever would have gotten it driving! -Queueing/Field Reset crew: I was very impressed that you guys always managed to meet that 6-minute turnaround time, while still being friendly and considerate. When I saw our match schedule Thursday night I was shocked to see that we would be playing 10 qual matches this weekend, and you guys made it happen! (and, that goes without saying, a big thank you to the other volunteers and the judges!) I'm sure there's some other things I'm forgetting here, I'll post more if I remember it. ____________________________________________ I want to talk a little bit about the field issues and such. There's a lot of information here, so it might take a while to read. The TL;DR version is basically "we had the issue in NYC and CT and we're as confused as everybody else." The rest is just the details. If you'd like to read the entire story just click on the spoiler button below. Spoiler for Field Issue Observations:

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
This is my 4th year as a volunteer & FTAA at the CT Regional. I can't say there weren't bumps to jump over, but I do have to say that this was the most intense & rewarding Regionals I've been to. I saw it in the predictions & it all came true. The teams that came to Hartford from home & all over were by far the elite!. Everybody had that wish to advance to the Championships, my team included. This is part of life & not everybody can advance. We are going past this & planning for the off-season events. We did have an issue with an unruly spectator, who did not show Gracious Professionalism. He was removed so those who were there didn't have to be subject to the negative attitude. Enough about that. There were quite a few robots that stood out significantly from the the crowd. I hope that all teams look ahead & strive to be even better next year.

I'd also like to extend thanks to teams 195 and 181 for asking Team 20 to be a member of their alliance. Our hybrid scoring was incredible and really made a difference in our success! Both 195's deadly accuracy from the key and 181's awesome autonomous were impressive. I really enjoyed strategizing with both of you; it's really cool to align with teams who take scouting as seriously as we do and take that all the way to a regional championship! Hope to see you guys in St. Louis and Washington DC! 2067, 1071, and 558; those were some intense finals matches! Coming from behind after a loss in the first finals match is never easy, but with matches as close as those, it was a real nail biter, especially with all three of you going for the bridge at the end. 177, 228, and 236; WOW! That was the easiest triple balance I've ever seen! You're strategy made it indefensible too, couldn't figure out how our alliance was going to beat you guys if you balanced that quickly every match :ahh: . It's really a shame the season and 177's amazing Einstein streak had to end with robots not moving on the field. Many people who attend the FIRST Championship this year will have never seen an Einstein Field without Bobcat Robotics. Congratulations to StuyPulse on their Chairman's Award! Well deserved recognition for making an impact in the FIRST community and the rest of the community. Also, congrats to 1511 on their Engineering Inspiration Award! Congrats to team 250 on their safety award as well! It was great to see so many capital region and New York teams well represented at the award ceremonies! Shout out to 1493, our collaborative scouting effort was awesome! The kids on your team really made a difference for us, and the scouting went really smoothly! That information we collected helped us get picked with our new strategy Saturday morning, and then to strategize with our eliminations alliance. Hope the information was useful for your team as well, we'll have to consider continuing this in future seasons! As some of you may have noticed, our robot was having some intermittent issues where we would stop moving during parts of eliminations matches. I can't say if these issues were in some way similar to the issues other teams were experiencing, but we did find that if we rebooted our cRio mid match via the driver station, we would restore operation for the duration of the match. This did mean we would be non-operational for 20-30 seconds in some of the matches, but at least we could come back. |
Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
Team 869 would like to congratulate the winning alliance of teams 195, 20, and 181 as well as thank team 175 and team 126 for seeing some value in our scrappy defensive robot, and inviting us to shake it up in the elims! Although we didn't go as far as we would have liked, we had a great time and it was an amazing experience working with some very classy and professional teams! Would've been great to unveil that triple on the competition field haha we were that close. :ahh: :ahh: :ahh:

Team 195 would like to send our gracious respect and admiration to all the teams who competed at the CT Regional. What a great competition! Great job especially to all the teams in the Semis! 1071, 558, 2067, 2168, 118, 2791, 177, 228, 236
Thanks to Team 181 and Team 20 for an awesome alliance! Team StuyPulse! You guys are the best....we have to plan more team get togethers. Too much fun for words! Congrats on your Chairman's award. Team 4055! We couldn't be prouder of you. This was our first opportunity to "mentor" a rookie team and we had so much fun sharing with you! Gus, what can we say? WE LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! Looking forward to another joint effort in building a great practice field and scrimmages next year! Thanks for helping us with travel! |

Re: 2012 Northeast Utilities Connecticut Regional
The National anthem was sung very well. However, I cannot be the only one who objects to saluting an electronic flag. It will take a lot of explaining to rationalize not having enough room or money to hang old glory from those vast expanses of ceiling structures. If the convention center hasn't got a flag, contact the American Legion or the DAR. There should be a cloth flag at these events. Does it need to be in the tournament rules?

just to start off i would like to apologize for the lateness of this reply i had some trouble making an account. anyway I just wanted to say that team 2067 had a great time at hartford and would like to extend a huge congratulations to teams teams 181, 195, and 20. we had a fantastic time in the elimination rounds. And also to thank all of the teams that participated in the regional everyone I talked to was fantastic. my only regret is that there were so many robot failures and problems in the elimination rounds, ourselves included, but they were still exciting anyway!
and again thank you to all the participating teams and once more congratulations to the winning teams we will see you in St Louis! |
