2012 Bayou Regional

18 days in till the Bayou Regional in New Orleans!

We are looking forward to seeing the usual locals, lots of rookies and some visiting TX teams. The teams list is on the Bayou site (http://www.bayouregional.info/teams.asp)

So who is excited? Anyone want to post some photos of their robots? Any predictions on how it will turn out?

I'm really excited for Bayou this year, I haven't been since it's first year. I'm inspecting this year and can't wait to see the competition.

I'm super excited for Bayou Regionals this year. :D When I saw the game at Kickoff, I was ready to jump on it. Last year was amazing, and I believe this year will be too! I appreciate the site info, I was curious about the scheduling ^.^ I want to spread the message of First

624 is excited to return! We attended in 2009 (Lunacy) and had such a positive experience that Bayou is the first "away" regional to which we'll be returning... Ever.

You can see a picture of our bot HERE and video HERE.

I'm excited to be a college mentor and help 3411 out in a few weeks at Bayou. There are many rookie teams this year, so we all need to help them pass inspection early.

I think I saw some 418 members at Alamo. Were you there scouting for Bayou and Lone star too ;)?

Also my question about where to eat was never answered ;__;

This year's game is fairly harsh in several aspects, we like to watch a Week-1 regional up close so we can know what to expect. All teams had problems of robots running up on balls, it was almost a guarantee that robots would put balls under the bridges (only GatorZilla could remove them if they were close enough to the edge), and it was good to see if teams would try to make use of the Key to draw penalties (like 1477 was a master at doing).

418 loved going to the Alamo Regional, we had our Lead Technical Mentor (me, Danny Diaz) as ScoreKeeper/Field Power person, and our Head Coach (Tony Bertucci) was one of the Lead Robot Inspectors. Several team members came down to watch, to size up the competition and the robot capabilities we will need to match.

The thing about New Orleans is that there are so many good places to eat - how will we ever decide? :) I found this list when looking for restaurants. It's fun to look through. It also looks like it is a good idea to call ahead and make sure the restaurant is open before we go. This is information provided in the Bayou Regional website. (Scroll down past the hospital info to the restaurant section. :) )

This is a new experience for our team and I'm very excited that we're coming to BAYOU REGIONAL!

It was great seeing a lot of teams tonight at the Pontchartrain Center. Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!! The TigerBytes are thinking about hosting a little video game/social night at our hotel tomorrow night. We'll update everyone tomorrow at the competition if we decide to give it a go.

Good luck to everyone!! :D

Can anyone on the ground at Bayou let me know what is going on? No match results on usfirst.org, TBA, Spyder...no web stream working. Last I heard they had gotten through 5 matches. The first Arkansas rookie team to compete this year is there and I was certainly looking forward to at least monitoring their progress without pestering the team. :(

Updated live from lunch break at the Bayou regional. Sorry everyone about the webcast- I'm not sure whats happening or who's in charge...

Picture of rankings is not completly recent. I think its as of 4 or 5 rounds before lunch.

Meredith, were doing great! Team breakaway lost our first match but won the second 2 matches. We've balanced twice on the bridge, and scored a couple balls.

David, thanks for the update. I really don't want to distract you from your event. Sounds like the team is as outstanding as I predicted. :)

Still can't get the stream to work, but at least Spyder is updating now. And I am getting a lot of flowers planted in my anxiety. I will have a lovely "Breakaway" cutting garden to show for it!

Re: 2012 Bayou Regional

Bayou was an exceptional event, I hadn't been here since it's inception in 2007 and it has now become a really great event.

Thank you to all the event planners and support staff you made it such a great event to work.

Congratulations to all the teams your awards and accolades were well deserved. With 15 rookies so many of you took time away from your own team and robot to really lift up the quality of play and teach the rookies the ways of FIRST. Bayou was a shinning example of coopertition at work.

A few special thanks

Team 456 Siege Robotics - Bayou would not work with out you guys, from field setup to key volunteers (Chuck, Amy, Eddie, etc..) you all make the event work. Your gracious professionalism award is extremely well deserved every one of you was willing to go above and beyond to support other teams during the event.

Team 2080 - I first met you all at Alamo and you were a fantastic team to work with. You pulled down the field in record time making the lives of the volunteer crew so much easier at Bayou. Thank you so much. Your team spirit award is also well deserved. Even after every other team was gone and the judges were no where to be found you all were doing step routines in the entry way before boarding the bus. A great team and true testament to team spirit.

Thank you every who worked at making Bayou such a fantastic event, and I can't wait to return next year.

I personally want to thank everyone at Bayou for the awesome experience this weekend. The TigerBytes loved their time there and can not stop talking about next year. This was my second time at Bayou (2010 was my first visit with the DiscoBots) and I love the growth of the regional. The TigerBytes will do our part to keep the level of competition at Bayou high every year.

Congrats to all the teams and I hope everyone enjoyed Pac-man as much as we enjoyed being apart of such a great regional!! See ya next year!! :)

Re: 2012 Bayou Regional

3310 had an awesome time at our first out of state regional.

We got there with a dead drivetrain that didn't turn.

Through the help of a few teams and tons of miscilanious donated parts we constructed a coaxial drive train in 2 hours that led us to the semi finals.

Thanks to 3039 and 57. We were a bit Leary at first but you guys showed great cooperation and strategy and we were very proud to be chosen by you.

Also on a biased note I really enjoyed the Texas team domination. :)

I just want to say that it's been an honor competing and working with everyone this year at Bayou. Every award was very well deserved, and it was nailbiting watching the finals matches. Team 2080 is very grateful for the Entrepreneurship and Spirit awards, as well as having the privilege to disassemble the field. Despite all of the problems faced by each team (ourselves included), thank you to everyone that made this regional possible. Counting down for next year already!

Re: 2012 Bayou Regional

Bayou Regional 2012 was a wonderful experience.

Wearing the volunteer cap, I'd like to express a heartfelt thank you to all of the teams that spent time on the practice field or tried to access the practice field by waiting in line very patiently. The level of professionalism with which each of you conducted yourselves will never be forgotten. I would also like to thank the teams that volunteered helpful suggestions and assistance. You were all terrific. There were several moments on the field that were so inspirational that I was brought to tears. 2 of those moments occurred when 2 different teams encouraged me to drive their robots. I was stunned by their sincere and generous offers - and scared to death. :)

I'm putting together a list of suggestions to send to our Bayou RD and VC. If you have any thoughts on the matter, send them to me - or send them directly to the Regional Director or Volunteer Coordinator.

--
Wearing the mentor cap for FRC 418, LASA Robotics, I'd like to say thank you to the Bayou Planning Committee, the volunteers, the team supporters, and the teams. This was a PHantastic experience for Purple Haze. I have a few thoughts about the experience that I may add later after some rest - but for now, thank you, everyone!

Jane

P.S. It was really fun receiving messages from teams in Arkansas, Florida, and Texas - asking me to go find teams and individuals to say hello to. That was really cool. I did it, too, and each greeting brought big smiles. I know the message senders would have been at Bayou if they could have been.

Team 1296 had a great time at the Bayou Regional - good competition and great food! We were privileged to join 2848 and 4316 and make a good run in the eliminations. Freakish hardware errors hurt the alliance in the semis but we are re-tooling and hope to make a run in Dallas!

Many thanks to the Bayou Organizing Committee, FIRST and many awesome and gracious competitors!

Words cannot describe how humbled 624 is by the recognition we received at the Bayou Regional.

We want to graciously thank everyone present for the friendly welcome, the incredible enthusiasm, and overall fantastic experience. There were so many phenomenal robots and teams... We were blown away by the exceptional strength of character and level of gracious professionalism surrounding the whole event.

Congratulations to all the teams who participated. It was a pleasure to work with all of you, and we look forward to seeing your continued successes.

Once again Team 3753 is grateful to have been a part of the Bayou Regional this year! With a big thanks going out to everyone who helped organize the event, and to the teams that helped us along the way. Also special thanks to 1912 and 1927 for allowing us to be on their alliance this year, and we look forward to hopefully working with both next year.

I hate that we did not discover FIRST until last year, and that this was my last time being a student with FIRST. Though, I can honestly say it has been one of the best experiences I've had. I look forward to coming back to Bayou next year as a mentor!

Thanks to 3039 for the alliance pick and thanks to 3310 for the great work on the strategizing and those 12 points in auton. It was a fun alliance and great after all our troubles on friday.

624, 1477, 4353: I said to a few of you at the regional, but I'll say it again. It's an honor to lose to an alliance like you guys. But I hope we made you at least a little nervous with that first semi-final match.

Team 2848 would like to thank the teams 1296 and 4316 for graciously accepting our alliance invitation. We had a great time in the elimination rounds, making it the "final four" and almost making it to the finals. Thanks to the Bayou regional for a fantastic regional and we hope to be there next year.

Yeah. We figured out why we couldn't get the other 2 balls to work right, right after that second match. Had we learned that sooner we might've won that first game.

That was a great robot and the accolades were well-deserved.

Hey - we were sitting in front of you and some parents/grandparents (one older gentleman gave me the evil eye ;o)) thought we were standing for every match (and getting in their view of the field) for no reason. I tried to explain to them that we were really 2 teams (1296 and 3310 - sister high schools from the same district that traveled together), both in the semifinals. So it probably seemed like we were standing all the time - sorry for that.

Guys

No worries! I wasn't in the stands much at Bayou but I am sure your folks were just trying to support the teams. As you saw we had a large group in the stands and I hope we were respectful of others while at the same time getting into the spirit of the matches.

From where I was sitting (when I sat), it looked like the whole section was rockin' the stands. It was one big happy party for everyone.
