F-1 Troy: 117 (27 foul points).

Hopefully at MSC we will see some scores that high w/o the fouls.

Interesting. a year or two ago we did a penalty OPR style analysis that showed that 67 had the ability to turn penalty bots into non-penalty bots.

Now they have the ability to turn non-penalty bots into penalty bots?

I am now convinced the secret to 67 success is some sort of crazy FIRST Voodoo.

We also didn't triple balance together F-1 Troy. Without the foul points which all came at once, we probably would of triple balanced and scored 110 clean. :] MSC will be fun!

Yep. That's why I am half way through a week long pre-competition superstition routine.

Hey, I'm not going to question it. Now where is my sweatshirt???

I agreed. It was so fun to coach in this match. Our alliance fought hard and it was amazing to see the 36 pt auto get pulled off. I look forward to seeing all these teams at championships.

Slight variation to the question:

What is the highest LOSING score?

We were the #8 alliance at MSC and went against the 67-469 "dream team".

We lost 90 - 97 (only 10 total foul points I think). It was a great match.

Does anyone know how the records are doing after MAR and MSC? They must have broken a few. At the risk of tooting our own horn, I think 341, 25 and 1640 set a new alliance high score of 115 at MAR, as well as a new alliance unpenalized score of 112.

So is that why you guys don't come out to Tardec/IGVC?

There is no way you could wear a sweatshirt at that event.

MSC did not break the high score records, so it currently stands:

You have the highest not including penalties, with 112, but F-1 Troy was the highest including penalties at 117.

Congrats on the MAR win, you guys played some great matches.

Note: In E-19 at Michigan, 67,830,469 scored 111 without penalties, so they came close ;)

Our media crew recorded full-screen video of the above match, but it will be a couple more days before I'm able to get it from them and upload it to youtube.

Even though our alliance (blue) lost the match, at least we were able to go down with a fight! It was the first match in which our alliance attempted a triple balance on the competition field -- couldn't have done it without a few minutes of practice in the pits!

Kudos are due to 548 and 118 for putting in so many baskets while 2194 played defense against the blue alliance!

I thought Archimedes Finals Match 1 was exciting:

4143 67 2826 vs. 2056 4334 1114: 106-103
Might be the first dual 100+ points I saw for both alliances.

Just so everyone's aware, Daisy/Poofs/AirStrike had no penalties adding to the 128.

Ken,
It was an honor to team up with your team again. We had a great time and we had a great alliance. Next year we will have to team up again and get to the final!! or beyond!!

Have a great year and thank you so much for having faith in our team and picking us.

We now have video of the above match (Newton SemiFinal 1-2) on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PDf7Vb2aCU.

We have also put the other Newton elimination rounds of our alliance with 1983 and 181 on youtube as well. These can be seen on 1519's channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/FRCteam1519.

I enjoyed being able to re-watch our elimination round matches, as it reminded me of some cool moments from these rounds:
  • Putting up 80 basket points as an alliance in Newton QF 2-2.

  • Scoring 3 for 3 in hybrid in the same match (QF2-2) by getting an additional ball from the alliance bridge. I don't recall seeing any other teams on Newton do this in competition matches -- were there teams doing this on other fields?

  • Coming "oh so close" in SF1-1 with so many things that cost us a few points which would have turned the tide: (1) our hybrid which inexplicably didn't fire the first 2 shots from the key, instead making only the one from the alliance bridge, (2) our harvester jamming up for nearly half the match, (3) having to improvise our strategy on the fly during the match when 181's bridge tipper broke, (4) not going for the triple balance in our improvised strategy, and (5) having the referee erroneously count the only penalty in the match against blue, rather than for blue! However, I suspect that the Newton winners of 548, 118, and 2194 probably have just as many "what ifs" in the same match that would have given them even more points, too!

  • Knowing where and when 118 would be coming for the triple balance in SF1-2 and having 1983 try to slow them down just enough with a solid block so that 118 wouldn't have time to triple balance.

  • Pulling off a quick triple-balance (the first competition attempt for all three of our robots) on our very first try on a real field! It was thrilling to lose to the Newton Champions knowing that we had given our best in the last match we played (SF1-2).
Kudos are due to the Newton Champions of 548, 118, and 2194 -- we were rooting for you out on Einstein! We're sorry we didn't get to see you on Einstein at the full strength we saw on Newton!

I'd also like to congratulate the Curie Alliance of 341, 78, 254 on their 128-point performance without the help of any penalties. Awesome job!

We were consistently scoring 1 ball from the alliance bridge in Curie elims.

This was crazy. I was not expecting to see that while watching the video. I watched it like 3 times. 1983 looked like a linebacker catching 118 (running back) in the hole. What a hit...:yikes:

I hadn't heard about that! Well done!

Actually, I just watched the video linked above from the 128-point match on Curie and see that 254 pulled off the 3 for 3, with a ball from the alliance bridge in that match. However, even though the ball went through the hoop just a moment before the end of hybrid (the bridge lights were still on when it dropped through), it was only scored as a 3-pointer, instead of a 6-pointer. So, by my reckoning, that 128-point match should have really been 131!

I love watching that instant on the "inset view" in the upper right corner of the video!

When I congratulated Lucien of 118 on their win after that match, he was still laughing and joking about that hit -- he didn't recall 118 taking a hit quite like that one all year, and he wanted to know if it was our team that delivered it -- as much as I wanted to take credit for it, 1983 was the one to do it!

Bob Steele 04-05-2012 15:36

That hit was one of our better moments .... we knew they were coming and had already scouted the time and the place...
It was timed really well but we regret it wasn't just a little bit harder..
They had a terrific alliance...

We have some additional footage from this match that we will be posting eventually. There may have been some problems with our forward facing GoPro (I want to get into the card before I say conclusively that the footage was lost), but we had 2 more GoPros active on the robot, as well as the one on the HockeyStickCam.

Edit: looks like our rear facing camera lost battery mid-match. Figures!

Maybe fantastic for you, but from behind the glass, it was terrifying. I believe one of the 6th alliance inbounders made a basket just before one of ours made one. I wasn't even entirely sure of the score until the official results came up.

Wasn't any less frightening from the stands! :)

Blue had won auto, and was tied 60-60 when all 6 robots hit the bridges, meaning Blue wins. Then Red Inbounder hits a 2 -- Red is winning! Then Blue inbounder hits a 3 -- Blue is winning!! Then Red Inbounder hits another 2 -- Red wins!!!

Several fans carried out with heart failure! :ahh:

Even at the start of the match we were already freaking out, because our robot had run the wrong autonomous mode and we had to figure out why. It turned out that the dial switch on our robot lost a wire so it ran "3" instead of "1". That whole series was wild.
